Hey guys...just got my copy of Empire a little while ago
Before I settle in and install it - Was there a first patch released already?
Do I need to do any updates, or just install/play?
Thanks

The game will auto-update after your installation is complete. Wait a minute after installation so that the update can finish from Steam. Don't immediately try to start the game.

Can anyone clarify version #?
I'm anal and haven't used Steam so I'd just like to double check it once it's finished installing.
Thanks, I do appreciate it.![]()
Anyone?
I haven't been pushy in any thread yet, but this one I want to get ironed out quick.
As I've said, I would greatly appreciate some version # confirmation.
Thank You

At least with Red Orchestra which uses Steam, usually after you d/l or even before it automatically d/ls a patch you can view the current game news and find a change log. Patch #'s are somewhat obsolete with Steam because everyone gets the patch when one is out whenever they sign on to the service, as long as you play the game and are connected to the internet you'll get an update if one is available, if anything they might go by dates.
For example patch one came out on xx/yy/zzzz, down the line (days/weeks/months) patch two might read aa/bb/cccc, all that information can be found in the change log which is available on Steam.
I think its difficult, or almost imposible to have patch mismatches for MP because the game will always update to the latest version if there is one available.

Ok. I've heard that was the case with some other games which emphasize MP, but I wasn't sure if this was the case with Empire as well.
I'm sure we'll get this sorted out eventually...correct version # should be up on Wikipedia soon.
I'll install later and check back here then.
bump, since there are a lot of other users on by now.
So then, just since I'm slow
You cannot play the game with an outdated patch #, correct?
If you launch Steam and play while connected to the internet, you're ok? (This is for SP)
Alternatively, I would assume you can't play MP with an outdated patch anymore, correct? I remember the old days of MTW and RTW where we were playing on all different versions #'s.
That's all done? One version basically, as in "working"?
Which is why I scratch my head when people accuse CA for using Steam for dubious reasons. They've stated they want to make constant updates and Steam makes it extremely easy to keep everyone up to date. Sure as hell beats waiting 6 months for one gigantic 600 MB patch.
Like a wooden man facing flowers and birds.
I just want to know when it was patched and what was patched so I'll know what to watch for. What is the best way to catch that sort of stuff?
I see stupid people....walking around like regular people....they don't even know they're stupid.
That's the one draw back. Our updates are going to occur basically unknown to us, behind the scenes, so I would imagine we probably won't even realize the game's been updated when it is.
Apparently, they said something about a change log inside of the Steam application.
I'm installing shortly (couldn't last night, was just far too exhausted to play) and I'll let you know what to expect out of said change log.
p.s. - I mentioned this in another thread: Let's hope CA is making updates save game friendly, or this is a disaster waiting to happen.
With my other experiences with Steam, it will be save game friendly. Which is a huge plus I might add.
So it's literally, plug and play no matter how many patches come out? Quick update at login and then your game starts?
I never did like having to find a mirror site and verify version # and apply the patch, as well as keep it saved on my PC. Not a big deal, just an irritating step.
My basic understanding thus far is that, when you first install steam you must verify the game, to do that you must be online, by being online steam will automatically update you (so in my case it very well maybe two patches.) After you install the game and patch it fully, you can play your game in steam's offline mode. The same way you can play the Empire Total War Demo, in offline steam mode.
That's about all I know
So after this first install and patches, you can then choose when you want to update by turning steam on and off basically (online mood and offline mode), but there is no way to launch the game directly after install without the first patch.
