    Default Protectorates

I've been happy to notice that getting and keeping Protectorates is much easier than in previous TW titles. This makes things more realistic IMO, and makes the map more interesting. They really do have their advantages, you don't have to worry about happiness in their provinces, you don't have to micromanage missionaries to keep order, it saves a lot of work in the more remote parts of your empire etc. Plus you still get 50% of their income, great deal!

Playing as the British, the 13 Colonies have never betrayed me, whereas in M2TW if I actually managed to get a vassal they would nearly always betray me the next turn. Also, I managed to make the Cherokee my Protectorate, when they had only one province left. It was under siege by one of my armies, but my units were badly depleted, and even though their army was only the Native Peasant guys, I didn't want to risk it (my units were down to about 1/5 size). So I made them my Protectorate, and now I'm retraining my men in Kentucky to fight the French, who seem to have incorported Louisiana into their own faction, I'm guessing they must get a similar mission as the British for incorporating the 13 Provinces.

Yes, the British have to take 3 regions to get the 13 Colonies, the Spanish have a mission like that as well, not sure what it is.

You can make pretty much any (tested with all but cherokee) native american faction your protectorate, just by giving them the cheap state gift then offering protection. I have them all (minus cherokee, who are at war, so I'm not gunna take them, its a peace campaign)

Who do you get missions from a anyway?

The campaign guide I got mentions missions but with the guilds gone who issues missions anymore?

I'd love to hear more about missions (seperate thread maybe?) because to this point I havn't heard anything.

The Protectorates do sound much cooler this time around tho.

The only missions I've seen are the RtI ones and the get colonies back ones.

Yeah, I played Sweden for 100 turns and never got a single mission. I immediately got a mission when playing the French and that was just the get colonies back mission. I had hoped there were missions, but some of the missions from M2TW weren't that great, so I'm a bit ambivalent to the whole thing.

I suppose the fact England, France and New Spain (maybe others) get specific missions relating to the new world makes sense.

Your right, several of the missions in MTW2 did get repetitive. I did enjoy the ones when you played the Teutonic Expansion as Poland or as the Teutons but other then that they basically boiled down to Build Church, Train Priest, Convert Faith, Stop Attacking or Take settlement for 2500 florins.

I guess it gives people a incentive to play the old world factions, which is always a plus. I guess the other non mission nations have enough to worry about without missions.

Where are these missions? I never seen them in the Grand Campaign, only during RTI.

I think they are called 'Objectives'. I've never seen any given during a campaign, only those which are there from the start. The only kind I've seen are when a colonial power unites its protectorates by conquering some provinces surrounding them. The French have absorbed Louisiana in my British campaign, so its good to see the AI takes them seriously.
