Default Quake Live - The Return of a Web-Based Quake III Arena

Quake Live (formerly known as Quake Zero) is a first-person shooter web browser-based video game developed by id Software and announced in 2007. Focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game, it succeeds its predecessor Quake III Arena (Q3A) as a "major league" first-person shooter eSports competition game.[citation needed] The game entered an invitation-based closed beta in 2008, and an open beta began on February 24, 2009.

Quake Live is currently in beta testing. The Quake Live website has an email signup for beta testers wishing to play. id Software responds to requests for further details on its release date with "When it's done". The beta version is currently Windows-only, but id is working on bringing the game to the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.

Quake Live runs on a slightly updated version of the id Tech 3 engine, but the focus remains on usability rather than major graphical upgrades. Among other usability changes, Quake Live has a new, more streamlined HUD.

    Gameplay

Quake Live was released as a free version of Quake III: Gold[5] (Quake III and its expansion pack, Team Arena) available only through a web browser.[why?] Quake Live is backed financially by in-game advertising from IGA Worldwide.[6] Skill-based matchmaking is powered by a "metagame engine" developed by GaimTheory.[7]

    Game modes

Various game modes from Q3A will return:

    Duel
Player versus player (1-on-1) combat. Whoever gets the most frags before the time is up wins.
    Free for All
Players engage in a match, where everyone fights for himself. Whoever hits the frag limit the game ends, and this person wins. When the time limit expires, the match will also end.
    Team Deathmatch
Same rules, in this mode, two teams fight each other.
    Capture the Flag
Each team has a base, holding a flag. To earn points and win the game, a team has to take the opposite flag, and return them to their own.
    Clan Arena
Teambased gameplay, everyone starts fully equipped with full armor and weapons. When fragged, the player must wait for the next round to begin.

There also is an Instagib mode. In this Free for All mode, players start with only a Railgun, which always delivers one-hit kills. Instagib servers are unranked.

    Open and closed beta

During late 2008 and early 2009, Quake Live had an invitation-only based closed beta. A select handful of players were picked to start the beta, and over time those players were given limited friend invitations. Later, those friends received invitations of their own. On February 24, the game progressed from closed beta to open beta, which caused a hefty amount of stress on the web server at launch. Queues have been organized to limit the stress and prevent overloading of the servers.

Within the first 6 hours after launch over 110,000 player accounts were created.
From wiki. I'm already playing there (As a former minor Quake 3 player), and since I don't play that game online for about 7 years, I must confess I suck absolutely. In my very first duel against some random guy, I managed to get a score of 25 (Him)- -1 (Me)

Anyways, should any of the orgah's join, they might post their usernames here so we can add them as friends.

    My own username is "Joltie".

To play you'll need to install a 3 MB program (Which includes Punk Buster). Afterwards you can play. Before you play online, you'll be required to do a 10 minute match against a bot which will adapt its level against you (It will play much better against someone who plays well), so it can check your skill level (Skill levels range from Beginner to Pro. My own Skill level is "Skilled"), so it can recomend the best servers you can play in (e.g. Servers with people of your skill level), so people can have a better gameplay experience, and not join a server with a dozens vets and be owned completely.

Have fun and post your thoughts!
