    Default Boardgame

Hi all, i have heard that the first game of Total War was based on a board game and shared a part of his name with that board game. Under which other name is that boardgame also known?

    Tnx in advance.

    Welcome memoo,

Shogun Total War was certainly influenced by the old Shogun/Samurai Swords board game. I think that's what you're referring to.

It was called "Samurai Swords" or simply "Shogun".

"Shogun - Total War" is not the same. This is the name of the PC game by the Creative Assembly.

"Shogun" or "Samurai Swords" was used for one purpose only during games development round here: it comes with a lot (and I mean a lot!) of plastic samurai. They were really useful when it came to talking about tactics and battle formations!

Quite a few members of CA staff are keen boardgame players, btw. Most lunchtimes there is at least one boardgame in progress somewhere in the building. Recent favourites have included Acquire, St Petersburg, Colosseum, Race for the Galaxy and Torres.
Gentlemen should exercise caution and wear stout-sided boots when using the Fintry-Kyle Escape Apparatus. Ladies, children, servants and those of a nervous disposition should be strongly encouraged to seek other means of hurried egress.
