Could anyone help me with this? The game lags horribly for a couple minutes while the intro movie is "warming up"(). Rather annoying, particularly because I don't seem to be having any other real issues.

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
It lags for me as well, but pressing ESC skips it just fine.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I'm trying to figure out that too.
And where they heck the save games are stored! I tried a search and came up with nothing. My first thought was they were being saved on Steam... but I have access to them in offline mode so that would contraindicate (and it would be pretty silly too!)
The folder must have a name without "save" in it. Funny, finding the files for the earlier titles was always a no brainer.
The game is loading while the intro is "warming up". Unlike previous titles, which just played and movie and loaded after.
Saves are in your user/my documents folder.
Maybe YOURS saves are! All I see are my Oblivion saves. Very odd. I know the saves exist, I can see them in game!
I'm running XP, btw.

Are you using XP or Vista? Mine are in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\save_games

I just looked up the old "-nm" switch to turn off movie. Doesn't seem to work in ETW.
And that path to saves definitely doesn't exist on my system.
Try turning on hidden folders in folder properties. I think AppData is hidden so you won't see it normally.
My view is that it is deserable to be both loved and feared; but it is difficult to achieve both and, if one of them has to be lacking, it is much safer to be feared than loved. - Niccolo Machiavelli
I bet that's it: hidden folders. Old system died, this one is new; probably never turned them back visible on this one.
Yep. That was it.![]()
I've got a lot of lag too. When I fight a battle, I sometimes have to wait a whole minute before I even get to the loading screen. It gets very annoying over the course of a campaign, when I am fighting many battles, or when I need to wait to reload a save and then wait to refight a battle. Lol, I think I might pick up a magazine or another hobby while I wait.
I wonder if there are any settings that I could tune down to reduce lag?
I would like to see animated splash screens for CAs' next release. Then I will at least have somthing to watch.
