Thread: Question about attacking an enemy fleet blockading my port.

Default Question about attacking an enemy fleet blockading my port.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. If I try to attack a fleet blockading my port my fleet goes up alongside them like they do before an engagement then does nothing. To get the battle to start I have to move a land based unit into the port then the naval battle screen comes up and the naval battle begins. Nothing happens to the land unit at all, it's just there in the port after the battle.

Is this a bug or am I not understanding some important mechanic?

Well, if their navy is in the port, then your land troops force them out. You can't have a naval battle in a port.

If that isn't the case, then it is probably a bug.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

I never thought about it like that. Makes sense I suppose. Although it seems a bit arbitary. It's not like my land troops take part in the battle. Just makes a bit more hassle than there needs to be.

Well, if they're holed up in port, you can't just sail in there can you?

But there aren't any defenses from the land side of a port, so it makes sense.

I know that, it's logical but it seems silly making you take like one unit of militia from the nearest city to go to the port then marching back after the battle. They might as well have streamlined it and just said that if you attack the blockading fleet they're forced out of port by some angry fishermen's wives or something.

I don't see how that is silly, you could have just stuck that unit in the port in the first place, and it wouldn't be a problem.

Are you saying your outside the port blockading or did enter into the port. if you are outside like you said then you should not need a land unit to start the naval battle, if you still do it's a bug for sure.

On a related note, if a nation parks their ship in your trading lane and it's flag flashes its national flag and a pirate flag, is attacking that ship considered an act of war? Or since they are essentially being pirates (or privateering) that removes their protection afforded to them by their nation.

Are you sure they are blockading your trade lane?

It means they are intercepting an enemies shipping, an aren't hurting yours.
