    Default Units unique to Factions

I haven't had much time to play at all since I picked up the game except for the RtI scenario. I just started a grand campaign as the UP and have seen none so far as I scrolled through the tech tree, only the regular line infantry, grenadiers and cavalry that every faction seems to have. Maybe it is just a limitation of the faction I started with, that there land units are not as superior as other factions due to the UP reliance on trade and navy.

I remember in MTW2 that most factions had their own unique set of units. Jinettes for the spanish, longbowmen for the english etc.

Has anyone who has played other factions seen some units unique to that specific faction?

I think the Ottomans get the 64-lb cannon too. I could be wrong there. I believe it's a generic 'Eastern' faction weapon.

The tech tree is very confusing to find units, but for the UP seach through buildings while on your India Region. I think you have a special East Indies trading company unit..I forget the Name..something like V.O.C. infantry...

Ottomans get lots of irregulars, and most of thier army is unique, same for maratha, though the mughals appear to have some similar units under different names, i think, havent played them long.

Brits get a few special units eg. Blackwatch. French too. IN fact the 12 main factions each have atleast one unique unit. Austria, Britain, France, Ottomans, Maratha and Russia have the more unique units, though france and britain appear the same with different names and tweaked stats.

The rest of the factions have 1 to 3 uniqe units except dutch, who have none, inless you count the fluyt.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

Kind of a big letdown from ETW. I'll get bored with this game after only a few differant campaigns. I like the unique units of RTW and MTW2. I still play those games along with mods that add even more variety.

Actually it's not as unique as it appears.

If you take over certain areas and i'm not sure which qualify you get Colonial or Company unit list rather then the standard.

I know this because I've now owned Ceylon as 3 different factions and no matter who owns it you can always build Company Line Infantry. (He who owns Ceylon owns the East India Trading Company?) The colonial units only real different is colonial regulars and dragoons. In America you do get native american units though.

I'd almost like to see it more like MTW 1 where if you owned certain regions famous for certain units or regiments you would be able to train those or train those units at higher experience levels.

That was one of the BEST Total War Features Ever!!! I loved building longbowen as any faction, so long as I controled the region. I would like to see this feature continued in TW games. I also want more variety and flaire, but before that a competent AI.

That is sort of present in ETW.

For instance, I believe any faction can build Highlanders if they have Scotland, and Europeans can train Sepoys in India.

Yeah. This seems to be the case, unique units are not unique to the factions, but to a province. I started a test game with Prussia and took Saxony. In that province I could create Uhlan cavalry (the Poland province seems to have access to them aswell) but I cannot do so in Berlin. The province called Prague, Bohemia and Moravia seemed to have some unique units aswell, like Jaegars and Carabineers.

So there is a good few unique unit types, you just need to hold the province which they originate from.

Austria can build Pandurs: Light skirmishers that can hide while moving. I am not sure how historic stealth units are, but it is as sure special.

Some units like line infantry and dragoons have different versions depending on the theater. They're almost exactly the same except for a different name and slightly different abilities sometimes. I believe the European version isn't affected by militia rounting while the Americas and Indian theater versions have bonuses to heat fatigue and some hiding thing.

The United States gets Long Riflemen. They are available fairly early, have better stats than most riflemen units and, best of all, are very stealthy. They can stay hidden while walking. I've used them to excellent effect, though they can be a little fragile.
