Steam Problems :/

Hey guys, so I've been trying and trying to get EB on my computer because it's incredibly awesome. However, steam sucks. I have RTW: Gold downloaded from steam. I then installed eb 1.1 and eb 1.2 to a folder containing the RTW files(happens when folder is in program files or not.). When I try to start eb it says "Failed to find steam". Steam does not seem to recognize the game and i therefore cannot find a way to add it to my selection of games opened with steam. I don't understand what steam even has to do with this, but it's frustrating the hell out of me

I can still open vanilla, but that's useless to me. Please help.

EDIT: Im also using Vista 64 as my operating system.
