I remember CA saying that they were going to implement a force fire option for canon, for the purpose of area-denial. Was that implemented, and if so, how do I do that? That could be really helpful with explosive shells...

They're VERY innacurate, but unlimbered arty will do that.

Alt-rightclick will fire on an area. So turn off fire at will, then alt-rightclick on the area you want to saturate. I was using this playing around last night to demolish enemies with my Organ Gun Army.
I thought you just needed to do a click on the terrain?
It doesn't give any indicator of where the cannon is targeting though which is a bit of a pain.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
just right clicking works for me and i alwasy use this even if the enemy is out of range of my fixed arty. also i also tend to use it when theres a mass of troops moving towards me. instead of targeting a unit i target an area ahead of them. micro managing this with cnistershot works wonders

7 out of 10 people like me ,
I'm not going to change for the other three .
I always stick my cannons infront of my infantry in gaps in my line so they have about a 180 degree of fire before they shoot into my lines. Then I put a ton of light infantry behind them.
I think that my arty crews must hate me because they get smacked my cavalry in 1/2 my battles when I don't tell them to cannister soon enough.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.
