It should be. Definitely not 1700-1799 weaponry.
CA in their wisdom decided to allow research to surpass the technological advances made historically. And I'm sure many people like this. I on the other hand am a traditionalist and would prefer Age of Sail tech in the Age of Sail era.
But there is hope in mods. The Road to Independence game has some tech advances disabled, so I'm confident that mods can and will disable such things as steam ships and such.
yeah, same with being able to research Percussion Caps. Oddly, it only reduces your chance for misfires in the rain, instead of adding to infantry reload time as well; Unless my eyes missed the stat upgrade on the info
What if it is actualy you who are crazy, and I am realy not crazy?... No, you're right... I am crazy.
lol
Well, all it replaces in the game is the flint-lock. It doesn't improve loading because you're not changing anything with the weapon, just how it ignites it powder. As for rifled cannon, the upper bound for that is how reliable your production methods are. I don't really have a problem with advanced techs for ETW. Its just a fun-oriented simulation and if you want to be hyper-advanced, go for it.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

You can fire a little faster with a percussion cap, as you dont have to pour powder into the pan. This can be a bit tedious in the middle of a battle, obviously. While it IS a bit fiddly to stick the cap on there, it's not quite as hard as the whole 'half-cock, pour powder, close pan, full cock' deal.
Tallyho lads, rape the houses and burn the women! Leave not a single potted plant alive! Full speed ahead and damn the cheesemongers!
Well, Shrapnel was invented at the tail end of the ETW era, though not really widely used till the mid-late Napoleonic wars.
