    Default Watchmen Discussion Thread

I know we have a thread for movies but I don't want to clutter it with my man love for this movie.

Easily one of my favorites of all time and definitely the best movie I've seen in the last 5 years. When the Directors cut comes out It'll probably make my top 3.

The way everything was packaged I thought was so well done.

    Some highlights. Spoilers

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
-Rorschach had easily the best performance and line line in the movie "I'm not locked up in here with all of you, all of you are locked up here with me!" The moral absolutism was a bit off-putting in the beginning but towards the end I began to like it as it seemed he was the only one who didn't compromise himself.

    - I liked how the superheros wern't so super. They are given human qualities which makes the movie seem realistic instead of a fairy tale.

-There was allot of gore but it didn't seem overdone. Even when the ol boy had his arms chain sawed off.

-Despite the Comedians many crimes I couldn't bring myself to hate him.

    - I was completely surprised by the ending an even more surprised these heros let it happen (save Rorschach)

-I like the way the flashbacks tied everything together

-There was full frontal male nudity and it was blue and LARGE

-That woman was a harlot but you got to see her nude more often so thats a plus.

    10/10
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

Excellent film. My take in spoilers:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - First of all, amazing opening credits. I wasn't much of a Dylan fan before this but I gave his stuff a second look after watching those.

    - Rorschach was easily my favorite character, the way he just refused to compromise, "not even in the face of Armageddon". The dude that ended up with Strike's "harlot" seemed just too creepy to be part of the crew, if you asked me.

    - Dug the Antarctica stuff at the end, but the movie was still about 20 minutes too long. I think they could have cut out some of the one guy pining for the girl and thrown in either more action or more USA/Russia-related drama.

    - Finally... Nixon as a five-term president... HAHAHAHAHAHA He's a quite popular guy in the alternate universe, with both Futurama and Watchmen making him Prez.

Weird. I literally just walked back into my dorm room after having watched it at theaters.

    My take:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

You guys like Rorschack, and I can buy it. He easily had the single greatest line in movie history "I aint locked up in here with you guys, you guys are locked in here with me!" Unbelievable cojones. However, I ultimately thought Dr. Manhattan was the best character. I can (sorta) empathize with him, in two regards- the emptiness of humanity and the seeming irrelevance of it. And the inability to please a woman despite having a three-way between the two of us while being in possession of the most God-like body ever.

    I liked it a lot.Great movie!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The main moral dilemmas concerning good and bad were great. In the end the other "super heroes" understood that sometimes horrible deeds could cause good things eventually. Only Rorschach could not understand that and died because he could not see the "grey". Now whether Rorschach or the others were right, thats up for the invidual viewer to decide.

For some reason, people seem to love or hate this movie. Not quite sure why.
