When it occurs to a man that nature does not regard him as important and that she feels she would not maim the universe by disposing of him, he at first wishes to throw bricks at the temple, and he hates deeply the fact that there are no bricks and no temples
-Stephen Crane
Which was what? The alliances Germany celebrated (Russia and Italy) to isolate and neutralize Austria prior to beating the crap out of it in the Seven Weeks War or the alliances system per se?

Latter in Bismark's career he tried to maintain a system of alliances and treaties to isolate France and maintain Germany's new influence in Europe. However, when he left power, the system spiraled out of control and lead to the alienation of many of Germany's former allies as well as a shift in the overall diplomatic alignment of Europe. Many historians say it was one of the main causes of World War I.

Yeah, already read it well explained in a site in the internet. It seems to be a potential interesting essay.

Dreadnought by Robert Massie
Big book on international everything. Highly recommended.Massie begins with the birth of Queen Victoria and follows the chronology of the royal families of Europe, culminating in the unification of Germany by Bismarck and the crowning of Kaiser William II. With the stage set, Massie describes the series of people and events that contributed to the outbreak of war, including Alfred von Tirpitz and his plan for German naval superiority, the Kruger Telegram, Boer War and Boxer Rebellion.

Have you just been dumped?
I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.
Scramble for Africa?
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
Yeah, that was one of my main possibilities that I thought of. It also involves Portugal, so that's a bonus (Though Portugal doesn't come very favoured of all that process.) Curiously enough, by 1913, there was a second "secret agreement" between Germany and the UK to divide the major Portuguese colonies between them. South Angola and North Mozambique for Germany, North Angola and South Mozambique for the UK.

What about the Vienna System (1815) and its failure?
R.I.P. Tosa...
That is also interesting. The advent of Liberalism and the struggle for the Conservatives to withhold the momentum it was gaining in Europe. Although Bismarck and Germany seem more appealing. I would try the Meiji Restoration, but compared to my knowledge on European Affairs, I'd much rather keep it centered in Europe.
