Default Heroic victory!! you brave lad

I was chasing a Spanish unit in Mexico (aka New Spain). It was a 12 pounder unit with 6 men and one cannon. They were able to out march my infantry and cavalry army. Must have been some real tough guys. In the end they raided my port and I attacked with four 12 pounder units and one unit of Hessian infantry. I had sixteen cannons, 96 lads manning the cannons and 160 Germans. I won of course and got a heroic victory. Yeah right. I had an other one were with a full stack I clicked the wrong button and had to fight against four units of town rabble with flintlocks. I bombed them all without losing (except for my general who got a heroic death on some defenses) and was also awarded a heroic victory.

What determines the kind of victory you get? I suppose it is somewhat broken but I really would like to find out what you need to do to get a normal victory.

I think it's just a yours killed vs theirs killed thing, where it should be yours killed/yours deployed vs theirs killed/theirs deployed.

I've only ever gotten close or heroic victories though, and some of the close victories have been pretty heroic in my book, 1000 dead versus 100 of mine dead etc.

lol yeah. I had two 2nd rates go and clear out some Persians that were pirating my trade route in the Straights of Madagascar. Ended up being a fleet of 6 dows. Needless to say, i completely
smacked them, and I get a Heroic Victory lol.

I haven't gotten too many Heroic victories when it comes to land battles. Usually my force outnumbers the enemies and for that reason alone I am robbed from getting any heroic victories no matter how many men I kill or lose.

Attack them in a settlement , Stay back {basically , don't move once deployed other than to shift reserves and cavalry any time they look like they are heading for a flank} and pound them with cannons , howitzers , motars and rockets {ie artillery ... howitzers are a good all round choice} .
They wil typically hole up in buildings etc and you simply target every artillery piece on one building at a time and collapse the edifice on their heads .
Make syre you don't walk any of your troops infront of your own guns and viola , you get Heroic Victory with them all dead and not one death on your side {works most of the time when you massivly outnumber them and they have no artillery} .

Like some have said , it is a bit broken ... S.O.P. for a T.W. initial release these days

I'm not going to change for the other three .

I got a few heroics but to be honest sometimes i dont see why they were so "heroic".
But... the best one I had was a VALIANT DEFEAT or something....got wipped out by 2 mysorean armies that eagerly crushed my prussian soldiers, who indeed fought bravely ....but i believe that if reinforcements entered the battle as they should I might have won that one.

All my best victories are "close." It's the lopsided, obviously outmatched enemies who give up a "heroic" victory when they croak.
Due to the ailing economy, this space has been foreclosed.

Last night my brits were cruising the mediterranean in 10 first rates when I saw 3 near-full stacks of Venetians sitting around. I decided to check it out so I declare war and attack the stack, which ended up being around 50+ indiamen in total. Well, it wasn't exactly heroic but it sure was one very long, very epic naval "heroic" victory

Well, I think, it's broken this time around. Basically, it seems, the fewer losses YOU get, the more likely you are to get a heroic victory in ETW in the current state... & You can crush the enemy completely, but it would be labeled as 'close victory' as long as you incurred some losses along the way.

Yep i think it's broken. My only real heroic victory was against the pirates i won without firing a shot. Not joking.
I had been besieging Trinidad with my Spanish army in the last turn the pirates came out to fight.
They certainly had a chance as numbers were roughly equal i had some 50 extra men.
I set up on a good defensive line and waited, I had no cannons so no artillery exchange, the pirates had none also.
So the pirates started marching up and maneuvering until they settled in a line parallel to mine so i thought this is it, here they come, but surprise surprise they just stood there and looked at my army for the last 20 minutes of battle.I did not charge them. The result was a heroic victory in which 1200 pirates rolled over and died, i guess my men scared them to death. . I lost nothing no men not even a lead ball.Nobody shot themselves in the foot :laugh4 it was a clear clean cut victory.
However i remember a quote something like the best victories are won without a shot being fired.

Exactly. I had two victories, playing as Prussia and France, both fighting Austria, where I thought I had quite deftly outmaneouvered the Austrians and annihalated them. Lo and behold, it was a "Close" victory, and I get a "Bloody" trait.
