    Default Ground Control

A set of two games (3 if you count the expansion that was only released to those who mailed in for it)

Ground Control is the best of the series (Ground Control II was terrible IMO, tried to have to much micro)

You take a limited number of squads into a mission, giving them names and customising what equipment they take in (ap rounds, uranium tank shots etc)

One of my favourite games of old, but fear not! Its a free download http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/groundcontrol/

Been a free download from filefront for quite a while now.

Only 450mb or so, so definately worth a look. Its a lot of squad based tactics fun!

Yes, it was a fun game. I actually liked part 2 as well, although it was different.
What amazed me the most was how it had really good graphics for it's time and that even on less than high-end systems.
And it's the grandfather of World in Conflict.

Yeah, I dug the first Ground Control game too. Pretty decent mix of tactics and strategy. I've actually lost my original game disks so this is a cool find, I'll have to play through it again.

I was fortunately warned away from GCII a few days before it was released so I never had to suffer the destruction of my fond memories.

It was still a cool game, it just wasnt Ground Control.

Individual units, you buy more units and they get dropship'd down.

The whole alien thing was weird to...

I loved the original ground control but lost interest halfway through the singleplayer campaign. I still have the cd somewhere and every now and again I will give it a go just to play something different.

Husar's right though, looking back it does seem like World in Conflict is Ground Control's spiritual successor. Both games were made by Massive Entertainment, and both published by Sierra.
