Thread: Bad sound problem.

    Unhappy Bad sound problem.

I'm wondering if anyone else is getting the sound problems I'm having. Here's a list of what it likes to do:

    - While in battle, the sounds made while clicking on units/giving orders will go away. Then, a few seconds later, all of the sounds will play at once and often times will play more sounds than I ever caused. The same goes for unit responses, as they'll all yell at the same time and often yell multiple times in a row for no reason.
    - Also in battle, gunshots/explosions/sword noises will play for no reason at all. My troops will be sitting still, and it sounds like they're in a big fight with someone.
    - In the campaign, it will do the same thing it does in battle. I'll click on a few places, recruit troops, etc, and no sounds will play. A bit later, all of the sounds will play at once. Just recently the game took it a step further and completely stopped all clicking sounds. All I can hear are the environment and music, and it didn't come back even after I reloaded it.

All of this has been slowly getting worse. It was fine wile I was playing the RTI, and started happening towards the end of the RTI. Now in the grand campaign (Russia), it has gotten 10x worse.

Yup, same deal here, every symptom. Haven't managed to pinpoint the problem (or fix it, obviously), but then again I haven't really tried either

AFAIK, it is one of the problems they are working on for the next patch... I remember a thread where one player mentioned manually trying out the sound output options (mono, stereo, SRS, dolby xx.1, etc) one by one until he got it to work properly. It didn't work for me.

Yeah, I have the same problems. I tried updating my sound drivers but no dice.

Good to know I'm not alone.

Many have the times been when I have turn the camera in panic at the sounds of cannons going off, when I have destinctly stopped them. Fearing half my line dead from a fusilade of canister. Only to find.... a picnic in progress.

Yep, that was an issue that was introduced in their patches. The latest patch just addresses "or supposed to address" the sounds crashing your game. At this point the intermittent sound and whatnot are killing my mod!

Ok good to know. I hadn't seen any topics on this, so I thought it was me having the problems.

The worst part is when it actually does happen. I'm serious in saying that when I tell my cannons to stop firing, they will literally aim at my troops as if they were the enemy and fire off their shots before stopping. It's no coincidence either. They've atually moved their guns when I tell them to cease fire and try to shoot my units (one time they almost took out my general who was very far away from what they were originally shooting at). It's like their throwing a hissy fit for being told to stop.

Its actually kind of funny how many people aren't complaining about this

Yep! I'm getting all of those.

I worries me too because I'm pretty sure after period of total silence in the battle I also occassionally get a CTD, with something called a 'Mutex' error reported. Not sure if thats just coincidence though and it doesn't happen that often, though usually after a pretty epic battle which I then have to fight again.

I've had all these problems, including the one on the campaign map where all clicking and other sounds disappeared and all i could hear was the environment and music, but for me all the sound came back when i clicked end turn, once it was my go again everything was back to normal.

The battle noise problems, guns firing, swords swinging, shouting and screaming, cannons firing, etc... I see my soldiers fire a volley but no noise, i see my cavalry charge but no noise, i see men in melee swinging sword and stabbing bayonets but no noise, i see cannons firing but no noise... Then all the noises come at once, including like 20 orders, so i have all those noises come at once, plus men shouting SIR, BY THE LEFT, MARCH! Over and over and over.

They'll fix it soon, it's not game breaking.

You're not the only one. I've tried updating drivers, turning audio hardware acceleration off, using my mobo "sound card" instead of my dedicated sound card, all to no avail. They'll get it fixed within a couple patches.

My issues with sound started on the opening film for the game and has included no sound or intermittent sound on all portions of the game on my Desktop with XP only. The game plays on my Laptop with Vista perfectly. I have had "no" issues on it at all. Yet, I can hardly play the game on the desktop with XP due to sound issues, etc.

This one however I found a fix.
One that works for my anyway.

When this happens just click another continent (I always use America via bottom left map) and then click on a city or town.
If you hear the sound of that selection it's back on!

Like I said this has worked for me every single time it's gone

Same problem, it seems like the sound is processed in it's own thread that sometimes hangs and then plays all the sounds later or whatever, either way there is a serious problem with the sound synching to the graphics/rest of game.

Just clicking on a far away city / town or whatever will bring the sound back. In my GB campaign after loading the game I had no sound (except singing birds and so on). When I click on Madrid the sound is back on.

    Edit.

Yesterday I experienced my first click on a fleet in a harbor CTD. I clicked on a fleet in the dock in Gibraltar. After restarting the game I had all the sounds from the beginning????

    Edit 2:

I loaded a Maratha campaign this morning and had all the sounds played from the beginning. Apparently this sound problem only occurs in the European theater. Can someone confirm this?

    Edit 3:
I can't confirm my question (edit 2). In my Maratha campaign the sounds do not play from the beginning. They take shorter to reappear though. I have only to click on three buildings / cities to have all the sounds.

    What do you mean?
all the sounds since the start of the game are replayed?

I didn't know fleets in a harbours can cause a CTD?
I kept all my fleets in harbours just to escape the dreaded CTD.
