Hmmmm. I think you will need to conquer them to play them.
On my titles, Kaiser means king in German. So i'm the king
SELLING PIRATINGS OF THIS VIDEOGAME WILL RESULT IN PUNISHMENT BY CRUSHING
Really? That'd be quite a relief.
Indeed, from what I've been reading it appears as if modding the game won't be as stright forward as the demo might of suggested. It seems the old unpacker for the demo still works, you just have to change some things in the Python, but as to making other nations playable; from what I'm reading if you do manage to open up the pack files, the files which might hold this information don't appear to be either in plain text or xml so we might have to wait untill we get the SDK to really crack the potential of the game wide open.

Wait, CA is making it hard for us to mod the game?
Blasphemy!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
- Proud Horseman of the Presence
Good news: I have the unpacked files and am looking into it. Don't expect anything though. Most of the files can't be read by us yet.
edit: well, that didnt work. Its deleted over half of my .pack files.
Thankfully I backed up the game on another computer. Off to copy them over.

I read that if you allow Steam to check the integrity of the files, it fixes everything, you don't have to do a re-install.
I have conquered several minor factions and they do not appear as playable on the main campaign window yet. Perhaps after I have completed a campaign they may show up, I have taken all the regions required to complete the short campaign as Prussia, but I have to hold them until 1750. Considering I have, according to Steam, played ETW for 19 hours in three days , and am only at 1727 then it might take me a while to find out.
Because CA is lazy? I really can't see a reason. Just put a disclaimer up if you're afraid noobs are going to play them and complain...
CA did hint in a couple of interviews that modders would unlock the minor factions. It will be possible eventually, even if it isn't at the moment.

I am struggling to appreciate as to why they have done this. I was looking forward to conquering the world as Georgia.
Well then can't wait for them hopefully they'll have a map editor as i find the map utterly horrible.i'll have to add some 50 provinces at least.
It's good that we're all calm about this, have a look at some of TWC's threads about modding and the're full of people ranting about it and bashing CA.
They probably will release modding tools, I heard that CA said that it will only take a simple edit though don't ask me for sources because I'm only going on what some people at TWC have said.
Although true lenin, you just have to pay attention to a few posters.
Theres an incredible new unpacker out, we can hex edit unit stats.
But trust me, don't even THINK about CA bashing. There may not be strict rules about it, but I got my fill when I signed up at the M2TW launch.
As for those who just want a bigger map, leave it to me! When mod tools come out, I'm stopping play and hitting the maps.
Common misconception is that CA said they would make it easier to mod. They said we could mod more but made no comment on difficulty.
We've discovered already we can mod a lot more, we just can't yet.
What we really need is alpaca over here doing his work.
They did say unlocking the minor factions was a simple and easy change. I'm guessing we just need the mod tools to do it. Can't be much simpler than desc_strat.
Is alpaca still around pevergreen? I remember working with him on MA many moons ago, great modder!
As for CA bashing, its easy for people to forget that they are given time scales to work within, which is why we get the whole misconception of "unfinished", it is unfinished in CA's eyes yes, but not their publishers, its why games get patched to the high heavens, happens with all games companies. CA are by far one of the most "community friendly" companies I have seen, alot don't bother posting anything but patch threads and news updates, they rarely interact, so the fact CA does is very nice to see.

I am getting all nostalgic now, I still think it was a great shame we never got MA or II out, it had potential.

Looks like it's finally done!
So far it seems the bugs to the mod is the fow covering up your starting location and emergent factions crashing the game. The first picture is the 13 colonies, not the US.
That file worked, but it seemed to cause significant slowdown in the game.
Also, starting without a school sucks.
I fixed the issue with the slowdown (it was my computer).
Awesome. I'm looking forward to playing as Georgia, just for the hell of it.
EDIT: But is that a King of the 13 Colonies? :O

I think he is an appointed minister or something, the colonies start as a protectorate. I messed up my game doing something so I had to reinstall so I haven't had a chance to really play with the colonies to see what limits or changes it has, as opposed to being the US (independent nation).

Yeah Portugal!! And we have a colony in India (Goa)! And they speak Portuguese in the Campaign! CA and the modders rock!
(yes, I know im overly excited, it will wear off in a bit)
Marines never die, they just go to hell and re-group.
