Thread: Indiamen?

    Default Indiamen?

I'm having some issues with my Indiamen.

    (1) I parked a few in the Ivory Coast and Madagascar, and they were bringing in good trade. But then the coin-flag stopped waiving and they did not appear on my Trade Summary screen. I don't see anybody blocking the trade route - what happened?

    (2) Those same Indiamen can't move away from their anchor-trading spot - why are they immobilized?

    (3) Also, what does it mean when a ship's flag is flashing between pirate flag and another country's flag?

    Thanks.

1 & 2) You probably divided (or added to) the fleet while it was on that spot. This causes a bug where that fleet bugs out. Nothing you can do but dismantle that particular fleet.
Next time move your fleet of the node, join/split them, move them back on and it shouldn't happen again.

    3) That means that they are fleets of that nation that are sitting on a trade-route of an enemy of theirs, which they are (partially) intercepting, hence the skull and crossbones.

Thanks. So, for the game I'm already in, I can't move them out, so the only fix is to scuttle them?

I've had that too...and I think you have to scuttle the one that won't trade and won't accept orders

Sometimes the solution is to scuttle the admiral or captain in charge of the fleet.

Incorrect. It means they are stealing somebodies money. It needn't be yours.

Thanks Elmar - to steal my money, must they be at war with me?

Two questions that are (sort of) related-
1: One trading partner (Ottoman) is privateering another trade partner's (Persia) shipping. So Ottoman are implicitly performing an act of war on me, although the AI doesn't consider it such. What can I do, other than go sink the raiding ship, which will lead me into a war I don't want?
2: I conquered the two Carribean provinces that were Pirate-controlled. Several turns in, I see that there is zero trade going out from them. What do I do to get trade going?

(Sorry if this is sort of hi-jacking the thread...)

Yes. That was what was talking about. OC they take the money of their enemies. The more ships they have tho more they are stealing from you (or some other enemy).

    technically yes.

but if one of your trade partners is at war with them, and they are blockading oyur trade partners routes to you, you are not gaining much at all.

If the blockade it is pretty much a loss. However if they go privateering they only attack the enemy exports, meaning you still get 100% income from your trade.

I've never had this particular problem myself but some people have had success parking a ship next to the affected trading spot & then the game may enable you to move the fleet to merge with this new ship.

Something similar used to happen with certain parts of the RTW coastline.
There you could set the ports' waypoint (ETW doesn't have them) next to the ship & it would let you move it onto the waypoint.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

The Pirates seem to build military shipyards by preference. You will need to demolish them and replace them with trading ports.

A question about trade - I've a huge number of trade ports, but some of them don't actually have the little dotted lines running up to them - why? Also, I'm pretty certain I've more trade ports than trade partners, so why won't they let me open up more maritime routes?

Is it so that I can only have one trade route per territory?

In terms of trade partners, it is limited to the number allowed by the trade ports in your home region that are connected directly to your capital by only your own provinces. The UP starts the game with 4 provinces, all of which have trade ports. Unfortunately, only one is in Europe, so all they can have are 3 sea trade partners at the game start, because the ports in Curacao, Dutch Guyana, and Ceylon are in different regions. If the UP acquires Flanders or Hannover, a trade port in those provinces would count. However, if they walked through Hannover and took Denmark, the ports there would not unless they also owned Hannover.

You can trade by land, too. The target has to be landlocked and be adjacent to your territory. Even after taking Flanders, the Dutch can't trade by land with France because they have a port. They can trade by land with Westphalia at the game start, though.
