So, I guess it's the woods for me, whether beaten, blown through, or strummed/picked into.
Wood = Good. :)

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford
My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

One of my favorite obscure bands was composed of a slide bass, saxophone and a drummer with a simple trap set. Weird orchestration, but they rocked out with it. Example.

Have you just been dumped?
I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.
A free sample of truly God-like playing of slide guitar. Music starts at 1:21.
Those fellas have a new fan, Lemur. Maybe my emphasis on wood was misplaced: it's really percussion that moves me - assuming Bass is a percussive.
Funny, I never figured you for a 'slider' fan. E-A-B blues/rock I estimated as your taste. My bad, brother. And props.
Mind you, I know fiddle-players personally... they're a little out there, having to tune opposite of guitars. :) Nevertheless, I admit to enjoying a rousing jig. And the power of 20 of them in a symphony.Originally Posted by sfts

1. Keyboards, Especially a mellotron and a hammond organ. It's amazing the amount of emotional depth that a good keyboardist can add to a band.
2. A good, varied bassist, actually a good rhythm section in general makes a band a lot more fun to listen to.
3. Slow, emotional guitar solos, such as the one on Time, by Pink Floyd.

Oh, I'm definitely a drums'n'bass fan at heart, with a special soft sport for slide. One of my all-time favorite hard-thumpin' songs.

The cello, without doubt.
The Irish harp moves me too and there is little to compare to a full blooded cathedral organ. I also adore the harpsichord, but that makes four.

Saxophone oh so first. I'll just list female voices as an instrument, why not. Piano.
Trumpet (Nothing like a trumpet-driven ska/punk song to fire you up or a downbeat ballad with a trumpet solo)
Any kind of percussion, particularly taiko (Rythm is how life cycle goes around)
Violin (Closest to the frequency of human voice, can trigger any emotions within)

I prefer a "softer" style of music, generally, as opposed to a "harder" style. I generally prefer a trumpet on mellower notes, though a livelier tune can be nice as well.

Only 3? That's not fair! I'll do it the other way around 3 instruments I dont like...
1. Saxophone (in general, there are exceptions of course as always).
2. Crappy synthesizer sounds (think '80's and your'e dead on target).
3. Accordion (in general, there are exceptions of course as always)
4. Bonus treat: Crappy drum-machines.... (There are good ones as well, you know).
Done... So what's next?!?
