    Slide bass
    Upright bass

    One of my favorite obscure bands was composed of a slide bass, saxophone and a drummer with a simple trap set. Weird orchestration, but they rocked out with it. Example.

    Those fellas have a new fan, Lemur. Maybe my emphasis on wood was misplaced: it's really percussion that moves me - assuming Bass is a percussive.

    Funny, I never figured you for a 'slider' fan. E-A-B blues/rock I estimated as your taste. My bad, brother. And props.

    Mind you, I know fiddle-players personally... they're a little out there, having to tune opposite of guitars. :) Nevertheless, I admit to enjoying a rousing jig. And the power of 20 of them in a symphony.

    Oh, I'm definitely a drums'n'bass fan at heart, with a special soft sport for slide. One of my all-time favorite hard-thumpin' songs.
