    Default Ship Names: Any references?

Has anyone got any decent reference sources for ship names of the various nations in ETW?

I'm reasonably ok, for the Royal Navy and the French (up to a point, though as someone else said one needs to be aware of a mass renaming of ships after the revolution) I also have 'Navies of the American Revolution' by Anthony Preston whch mentions quite a few ships of the Continental and State navies, but unfortunately lacks a full list.

I'd be grateful for any sources that list the names and rates of an entire navy, or even the ships in a large battle.

Haze Gray & Underway is a pretty good website. Also links to a number of navies. http://www.hazegray.org/

It is mostly concerned with 19th & 20th century. But you can find some older ship info if you dig in, especially to the various navies' websites that it links to.
Ancestry: Turkish & Irish. Guess my favorite factions!

That looks like a useful site, already found this from there http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/line/sotl.htm which lists the names of all the first US ships of the line,

    Go to this site:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of...External_links

at the bottom of the page, on the section "see also" you may find several links to pages dealing with the dutch, french, british, spanish, united states and portuguese navies of the period. Navigate a little and you will find many ship's of the line names lists.

Cheers...still lacking a full list of the smaller vessels of the Continental and State navies circa: 1776

These are the ones I have found so far:

    Bonhomme Richard
Lee - Continental schooner Captain John Manley
    Confederacy - Frigate 28 guns
    Ranger - John Paul Jones
Alliance - Continental Navy Captain John Barry
Hannah - Schooner Massachusetts State Navy
Protector - 26 guns Massachusets State Navy
    Convert - 7 guns
    Philadelphia -4 guns

October 1775 Congress purchased two armed ships, 6 brigs, 3 schooners, and 5 sloops (e.g. cutters) and order the building of 13 Frigates for commerce raiding (5x32 guns, 5x28 guns and 3x24 guns) All except 4 were built but most were lost or scuttled pretty quickly.

In 1776 more ships were order (3x74 guns, 5x36 guns, and several smaller vessels). Few of these were completed. Only two of the frigates went into service including the Alliance and the sloop Ranger. The only 74 built was the America which was completed in 1782 and immediately given to France, who scrapped it shortly afterwards.

In 1776 the Continental navy had 27 vessels on its books and about 3,000 men, by 1779 it only had 13 vessels despite the new builds. By 1780 only 9 vessels remained, by 1781 only 3 remained and in that year all except one were lost.

In 1779 an old East Indiaman was acquired from the French called the Duc De Duras and renamed the Bonhomme Richard

    American Naval Losses 1777-1783

    Frigates
    1x 44 guns,
    2x 38 guns,
    6x 32 guns,
    Corvettes 6
    Sloops 17
