    Default spam links on msn

I don't know where this belongs to but ill post it here.

Couple people on my msn list have been spamming me with random links which I suspect to be virus links (3 of them) and I have a slight suspecions that I'm infected as well after accidentally opening the links. Would it be fixed if I run a virus/ spywear search or should I do something else?

    Cheers

how long have these people been on your list? do you know who they are?

i would suggest downloading malwarebytes anti-malware, it is an incredibly effective tool for killing viruses and what not.

Yea I know all of them who are sending me spam links. I guess they are infected and they don't know that they are sending them to peoples.

Its just that when they are offline, they keep on sending me wierd links, telling me to "CLICK IT!!" which I try not to ofcause.. But once I tried to check what it is out of curiosity by copy and pasting it on google search bar, which somehow opened up the link...

I do have a decent anti virus soft called k7 which seems to do the work. Well, it doesn't keep inform me when they get the virus unless I do a full search.

Just get Kaspersky Antivirus. The best in the world, I guarantee. Just Google it and look at its reviews it always places either first or second, in just about EVERY competition, magazine, website, etc.

Get a thirty-day trial of it which is free, and for 30 days you will clean out your computer. Then you can get another trial

    Free trials ey?? Like Winrar?

Well until my laptop goes completely crazy (Which I expect them to be in about few months... I want a new one anyway.. ) I'll stick with the one I got right now.

Guess the only option is to tell the person that they are sending wierd links.

Well if your antivirus is any good you should be able to right click on the link and scan it...

I use avg free and I have only once had a virus which was my fault anyway(looking at dirty websites ) and malewarebytes(also free) took care of that.

Hmm... while we're on the subject, how would you rank Avast!, pevergreen?

Avast! and AVG are OK, but they are free. So is Spybot. They all have incredibly low detection rates. You are susceptible to almost everything with them. Just read the reviews. They are disappointing. The free ones may be good for what they are, but they will not come close to the paid antivirus programs.

I used to have Avast! and then I got McAfee and McAfee cleaned out whole bucketload of malware that Avast! never detected. Then I got Kaspersky and it cleaned out several more types of malware, but this time more serious, such as worms and spyware, that McAfee never suspected were there. So get Kaspersky. No one is truly safe without it, as in addition to the best protection it has the fastest response times of all anti-malware programs and is updated a couple of times a day. It was also the only anti-malware to detect the Conficker worm and delete it for quite some time.

Kaspersky also keeps track of what you are infected with and sends the data to the company website, where they analyse it, contributing to the fast response times. Kaspersky is always the first one to discover a virus, and always the first one to respond. Even though some say there are better anti-malware programs, everyone agrees that Kaspersky has the fastest response time.

Interesting, but unless I can keep renewing the free trial I still won't go for it. It's a principle thing; people should have free protection from the crap that floats around out there.

Keep on living like that Mr.Principle and you will soon fall into deep trouble. Sure, we should have protection from that, but actually, this is a capitalist world. It is also a world with crime in it. You have to buy locks for your doors so that you will not get broken into. You also should keep your money in a bank for both the safety and the interest. We cannot act on principles all the time, and especially if we have such silly principles. Just wait until you have to wipe your computer clean and then perhaps it will cause you to change your principles. You would not believe how many of my classmates had that done to their computers. And they had paid antivirus programs mind you. Much better than Avast! and AVG. Not Kaspersky though, which is why they had to wipe their computers clean.

Seriously, are you kidding me? "people should have free protection from the crap that floats around out there"? That is the most naive thing I have heard in months. Get that trial, scan your computer, fix your problems and if you want to know how to keep it for a longer time, just PM me.

I have no idea what Kapersky is, I've never heard of it. Preferrably, I'd use AVG, but seeing as how it sabotages Steam, I have to make do with Avira. If you use Steam, go with Avira.

McAfee is rubbish. Srsly. It must be like Norton, in league with the devil or something, as there's no way a product so bad could keep a business in profit.

Free AVG is the way to go, UNLESS you have/use Steam, in which case I'd use Free Avira. Bolting together a security system out of trial and free versions is the way to go.

Damn, don't get excited. It's not your computer.

Anyhow, why do you have a problem with me having principles? And since when is that one silly? It's just the internet, and it's just a computer. I can do without either, honestly.

I am neither excited nor have a problem with your principles. I just find them rather bizarre and irrational. C'mon, "people should have free protection from the crap that floats around out there"? How old are you BTW? Have you had previous experiences with viruses?

I am not so certain you would be glad if your computer had its own memory wiped. That means every file, program and even the OS would be gone. We can all do without, but would we want to? Not to mention that nowadays it is very difficult to do without. In my school for instance, all of our assignments are in electronic format.

Settle down a bit there mate...

I've had that, I finished school with Beefy last year.

AVG 8.0? Don't use 8.5 yet, not for another few months. 8.0 works fine with steam.

The simple fact it there will never be one program that gets everything.

The safest free system I can think of:
    Mcafee Stinger
    Malware bytes
    Spybot S&D
    AVG Free 8.0
    SUPERantispyware
Mozilla Firefox with adblock and noscript.

That should just about cover everything.

As for what I think of Avast!? Not much, others do the same thing but better.

If you are really stuck and don't trust people on the internet (a good idea most of the time) ring up your local repairs shop and ask what free programs they would reccomend for antivirus and antispyware.

It's not as if kaspersky was too expensive... last time I checked it was only 30 dls... (well... about 336 PEsos (1 dl = 13.70 pesos) for a year...

Though maybe thats the re-activation fee. (dang the last year went on mad fast!! )

Kaspersky is good but... it does drain a little bit from your computer, so it affects gaming perfomance. What I do is simply unplug the internet when I'm going to play and switch off 'K'.

Most gamers, well many that I know, prefer Nod32; which I dont really like since it's not as good as 'K' but it's fairly similar (top 5 AV IIRC) and it drains way less than 'K'.

Then again, just buy a Mac. =P
    (just kidding)

PS: You're not infected unless you accidentally clicked on those links... or maybe if youa ccepted a file transfer from them, so I wouldn't be as worried for your computer, they should be worried about theirs... then again it's not a really harmful virus, but rather an annoying one.

Disclaimer. I was too lazy to boot up Firefox, so I appologize for any spelling mistake hehe.

I got a firefox and it doesn't fix my spelling anymore

Thats a relief. I did couple of scans but nothing really came out so..

And I refuse to buy a mac. I got bad memories regarding to mac..
