    Default Campaign Map Movement

    At Sea:

All ships don’t have equal movement. From what I have seen 3rd Rates are your quickest. Galleys and trade ships are the slowest. It makes a substantial difference once you have top gallants and they leave other types behind. Even though most ships have a range of 500 they still move at different rates.

    On Land:

Light infantry is faster than Dragoons by a point or two. Generals and straight Cavalry are the same speed as your light pathfinders.

When speed matters most, these are things to keep in mind.

@#$% pirates seem to have the fastest ships. They can always go more than the length of my indiaman's retreat.

I very much look forward to fighting the pirates.

It is almost like a visit from Santa, provided you play to the bitter end and get the captured ships.

That is usually where I get my trade fleets in the early game, it I have a passable navy.

As to Indiamen, I have little use for them other than trade. They are so week a sloop can usually ignore their broadsides and they are of little use in battle. I usually leave them parked near the edge of the map.
