    Default linothroax

sorry , this might be an old topic..

what is your opinion on it? .. or does anyone have some additional information ?

kind of took little notice on this type of armor ,then did a little research on the topic .. with all the impressive feats of a so called "primative" time period (some people might think this) .. i would have to say that the linothroax is another one for the list ... armor made of linen cloth that would stop an arrow and sturdy enough for a stop a blade ( to some degree ).

there is debate as to whether it was made of linen , made of bronze , leather .. etc..

i am sure that with everything else going on back then , a sturdy armor made of linen cloth was not out of the question..

modern body armor uses the same principles. layers of ballistic cloth (kevlar, twaron, etc) are stacked on top of each other. when struck by a projectile, the force of the impact is distributed along the fibers of each layer of the cloth. with enough layers, the energy of the blow is dissipated enough that the projectile does not penetrate the armor...

For that matter, textile armour in general relies on that principle. Surviving accounts describe your run-of-the-mill padded/quilted pieces as having a dozen or few layers...

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."
