Super Getai

Has anyone else noticed playing as the Getai, its perfectly plausible to get starting Silver Chevron troops in Sarmiszag only 15-20 yrs into the campaign (I'm doing it at moment). That's Silver Chevs before they've even seen any combat! I'm not complaining (it's fun) but anyone else think a teeny bit overpowered? You don't even need the Elites Skirmishers etc, the basic ones plus Falxmen are lethal..

Type 2 Gov: 1 Chev (you sacrifice building a lvl 5 Mic but that only gives you expensive Noble Cav that you really don't need)- 1 Chev

All these Silver Chev guys also start with even more morale in said city (haven't got the game fired up atm so can't state exactly how much)....

I think maybe they did it to stop the Makedones from rolling over the Getai. Chevrons play a huge part in AI vs AI autocalc battles.

Historically the Getai survived until the late Roman Empire, so it's not historical for them to be wiped out early on.

The Super Getai do for the AI Makedones what the Super Elutheroi north of the Alps do for the AI Romans and Germans - hold them back and force them to expand elsewhere.

Oh I agree about the Getai being able to hold their own, cept the ai would never get these 4 chevron out of the barracks guys. 1) They'd have to knock down the existing type of religion first in Sarmis and 2 ) They'd get a LVL I gov there automatically.

I'll state again, no complaints, just wonder what others think...

Here's a basic Komati never fought a battle, about to go on brigand duty..


I use them as front line infantry, and with those stats, these out match most troops a couple of MIC lvls higher (e.g Principes, Classical Hoplites) ..and they are almost as cheap as troops come, plus there are 100 of them, compare to generally 82 of the enemy AND they have masses of javelins to throw first...

I have managed to get troops trained with three chevrons, but since I like to build Type 1 governments in every homeland province, I never got that fourth chevron. That being said, the weapon/armor upgrades from the blacksmith act as one chevron.

Which reminds me: how is it possible to upgrade to silver/gold weapons and armor? Are only certain factions able to do this?

It is not possible in EB. If it was up to the EB team, there would be no weapon/armour upgrades. The Sweboz used to have temples that gave weapon/armour upgrades, but AFAIK, not any more.

I have played Getai pretty extensively, I agree that Sarmizegethusan troops are very strong, but when playing VH/H or VH/M I find that early on the Epirots spam huge armies based on the income of Pella and I have my hands full preventing them from taking most of the Thracian states. Typically I spam troops every turn out of Sarmizegethusa to beat the Epirots back which really slows down its growth. Also, though I likewise like putting a T2 government in Sarm, it prevents you from levying Ktistai there which are the Getai's best forces. Overall I think Getai have a great versatile army with Scythian horse archers and great skirmishers, but a mediocre building tree, with no Level two mines, mediocre navy and law enforcement, no education, no high end sanitation, no L2 roads etc, plus their heavy infantry are IMO not elite, Thrakians are great skirmishers and Komatai are solid early on, but four chevrons or not I'll take Gallic Neitos or Polybian principes over Dacian heavy phalanx or elite skirmishers any day and the rest go down to missiles and cavalry charges.

Also if you think Sarmizegethusa is overpowered try playing the Sweboz, with an easy to install L3 government that gives a nice tax bonus and one chevron, an L3 temple of Tyr plus a field of games they can spam four chevron natives up to level three and foreign troops up to level four anywhere. Try mass produced four chevron German skirmishers, Gaut and Chatti Spear, Chatti Jugunthiz, Baltic archers, Celtic slingers, Celtic light cavalry, not to mention high end regionals like Rhaetian axemen, Helvetii phalanx and Bastarnae all continuous four chevron spam from every city.

Its also very difficult to produce a good Manager/one with influence (luck is the major factor), and you very quickly run out of top end health/happiness buildings, so maybe all those extra chevrons are compensation.

Yup, Sweboz L3 temple of Tyr gives +2 chevrons/ +3 morale, vs L4 temple of Ares +1/+2. And the Sweboz can do it in any city, the only problem is that Sweboz cities start out small. So I usually hire and settle mercs throughout Germany until the populations reach the boiling point, even a level2 temple of Tyr is +1 chevron so it is really easy to assemble 3 chevron basic troops as the Sweboz.

Lol i started a getai campaign yesterday,and now i can make a cheap terminater army

And drewsky...i use your EDU...so compared to other players,its even easyer for us,because in our games all spear units have -4attack(its much more fun and realistic now)
That makes our Braddock(chuck norris) units even more dangerous

The Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi, I call "Rambos" for short, cos that's how they act in battle.

I'm quite in awe of the general balance of EB still though...as Getai, you get some nice troops, but you just can't afford them. Even with Rhodes, Hali, Byz, Sardis and Perg (plus 8 other including Ank) all managed by home FM, Im still only making 4k a turn, and really need to raise at least 2 more full stacks...The AS keep wandering into my Anatolian Lands, and my spies have seen 3 full stacks on the way :eek:

Let's just hope Epiros continue to be occupied with their KH war, or then I have a potential front of about 7 cities, which is far too long..

Make 1 stack and start raiding pella rome korinth,ship them to egypt....do the same with the rich city's over there.
That's how i can afford to build my buildings lol
All other money i need for troops,to keep the others at bay....

When I left it late last night, it was as my previous post. I'm trying to enforce a house rule, that I'm absolutely not allowed to attack my allies, which rules out Pontus, Epiros, Rome. Epiros have Northern Greece, KH have Southern Greece. Macedon have only Chalkis left (and will most likely be taken by KH soon). I have a full stack on the way to take the Polish province (with nice mines) guarded by 2 stacks.

Its the AS that worry me.....

Threw everyone in the East into Sardis, had a one turn war vs the AS !(they appeared after I defeated their first stack and offered a treaty which I grabbed quickly ;)) I think they are too busy elsewhere, with Pontus and others, they seem to all have gone now...

In the West, KH took Pella, then foolishly started to bombard me with spies...I took and sacked Pella, raiding the Macedonian tombs in a fashion proper of true barbarians ;) Loads of money...



The Polish mining trip had to be postponed, as suddenly two stacks of EIGHT brigands appeared by my Northern cities which had to be dealt with (and very decent brigands, a lot of semi elites!)...the army needs to make the long trek back south to replenish..

Overall, a good few years :)

Man all this talk of the Getai makes me want to start a new campaign with them. My last one ended with me fighting for Antioch in the East and holding the Romans at a bridge near Patavium in the West. Those damned super Epeutheori stacks in Bohemia butchered 2 or 3 of my full stacks before I just declared victory and moved on to a different campaign.

I'm a bit surprised to hear people downing on the Dacian Heavy Pikes. They formed the center of my battle line as soon as I could get them and I don't think I ever had them break. Also, their secondary weapon and heavy armor makes them pretty damn good assault troops in my experience.

To tell you the truth, I'm already a bit bored with the current Getai campaign (and apologies)...its just such a limited faction in terms of playing "as a builder". I also feel like I have no control over the development of FMs (which often keeps me interested in a boring campaign)....ah well, probably back to the "civilized factions" for me...

I got bored with the Romani as a result of their stringent unit roster (at least, Camillan/Polybian eras) rather quickly. The Getai have quite a diverse military, and enough of a challenge to keep me occupied for a while, even if their economy is lacking.

I found that playing Getai truly as a barbarian faction (for example, instead of capturing and developing the the settlements in the Po River Valley and central Italia, simply exterminating the population and razing the cities to the ground) offers a bit more fun. At the very least, it satisfies my thirst for vengeance.

Interesting, well my last game as the Getai was very similar to yours, except that I expanded up just south of the Boii supercity, and expected it to be a good buffer against the Sweboz, but somehow the Sweboz managed to conquer Eburonum, then they quickly attacked me, so in a 10 year war I sent a stream of Sarmizegethusan elites up north and wiped the Sweboz out. The problem I had was that I started out with a strong group of Dacian heavy phalanxes for my center line and they took severe losses and died off fighting the Sweboz in the forest. The clubmen tore them up and even the Sweboz levy spear did pretty good damage with the forest combat bonus. I play VH/H but still level four Dacian thorakitai have a 29 defense so I was surprised at how much damage they took over time. So based on that I phased them out and filled the main battleline with Thrakian peltasts backed by falxmen. The peltasts are cheaper, start with 24 armor at level three and I like their looser order, because they die slow against strong opponents since they are more spread out. I find that if I maneuver a bit I can tire the enemy out so much skirmishing with Peltasts and Cavalry that when it finally reaches melee the Peltasts easily win out.

And there building tree is indeed boring....So when i'm bored to much.i go back to my HK campaign(i must say massilian hoplites rule hehe).Never liked greece,but somehow the factions there are pretty addictive to play(or to raid lol)

The biggest prob i have with the getai,that you only have a few happiness/law buildings

And there building tree is indeed boring....So when i'm bored to much.i go back to my HK campaign(i must say massilian hoplites rule hehe).Never liked greece,but somehow the factions there are pretty addictive to play(or to raid lol)
