The TWC...is down.

Hi folks, I have the same problem like some others. I can't access twcenter, timeout, he says. Goes like this for more than a week. Tried three browsers & ipod.
What is going on there? Any solution in sight?

Btw, twcenter is only one of the two boards I follow on a regular basis. (Org! Org!)

The current problem at TWC seems to be only affecting some people - they're trying to fix it with some stuff I don't understand at all....

GED moved the server to another part of the hosting facility. That may have randomly switched some people to use Cogent instead of Level 3, or something. If it hasn't fixed it for everyone, it's probably broken it for some people it was previously working for. GED has said our host filed a complaint with Level 3 about it yesterday afternoon, so hopefully it will be resolved at some point soon, but we can't control when.

Everyone, please provide the exact error messages you get. Just saying "it doesn't work" is basically useless for debugging. What exactly happens when you try to use the site? Does a blank page show up? Does the little icon that shows it's loading just spin forever and nothing happens? Does an error message pop up? The text of any error messages is absolutely essential here, if there is one.

When reporting problems, please include all of the following info if possible (especially points 1–3, but the more the better):

1. The exact text of any error messages you got (translated to English if they aren't English to begin with), or the exact symptoms of the problem if you don't get an error message. Bad: "TWC isn't working, I'm getting timeout errors". Good: "My browser is giving me the error " Good: "Whenever I try to go to any TWC page, I get a white screen and it just says 'Waiting for twcenter.net' in the lower left corner, and the page never loads, but I never get an error message either."
2. The exact time and date that the problem occurred, if possible, with time zone. Bad: "I've been having problems over the past few days." Good: "I first tried accessing the site at 9:22 AM Berlin time, and got error messages until 10:15 AM, when I gave up. It worked again at about 3:30 PM."
3. Your ISP, and location. (I could probably figure this out myself, but it's easier if you tell me.)
4. Does http://axint.net/ work when TWC seems to be down?
5. Go to Start → Run → cmd.exe and type "tracert twcenter.net", then paste the output here. You may want to erase the first couple of IP addresses in the trace, since they could be used to pin down your exact area, but that's probably overly paranoid.

If you can't provide all of this info (e.g., you didn't write it down), then that's okay, but it will make it much harder for me to figure out what's causing the error. So please, make sure you write down all the details I've asked for the next time the problem happens. Otherwise I'm going to have a lot of trouble doing anything, since I can't reproduce the issue myself.

Some people have posted info that seems to have helped them track possible source of problem down - but they're obviously limited to those that have another connection that works - if you're still having problems later (and it doesn't seem to be same for everyone), post details here and I or someone else with accounts on both sites will transfer info to them, or make sure they've viewed it here..

Ok then, I'll be glad to have some means of communication to the center, however.

Exactly that. White screen, it loads and loads and then gives me a timeout.

2. I'm sitting in Germany, timezone should be GMT+1 (summertime, so +2, i guess). Have the same issue since maybe one week. Roundabout.

3. ISP is Deutsche Telekom, and the location is Germany, like stated above.

4. axint.net does work, but it takes quite long to load.

I have been on the phone with both Axis and with Level 3, and it seems there might be a border gateway issue on the Level 3 network.

I have a request from Axis (our host) for failed tracerts that INCLUDE the originating IP address. Most of you are removing the first 2 hops or so from your home network. I understand if you dont want to post them publicly for whatever reason but you can definitely feel free to PM them to me. Sim and I have your IP addresses anyways, but we need every hop to make sure nothing on your network got blacklisted because someone set up a spam mailer or some other kind of crap and then got canned by Level 3.


I dont usually check my .Org PMs that often but I will be for the next few days.
