Danish Obudshaer. Supposed to be a top tier halberd/pike mix, but they perform worse in the field than swordstaff militia.

The scottish pikemen in the Britannia campaign... who hold their weapons into combat where it will do no good whatsoever. Then get massacred by horses.

Honestly... they really are poor at reeneacting the greek pikemen and hoplites.

I love me some good ol' Pikemen when playing as Scotland! Sure, they die like flies against missile fire, but have a bunch of Pikemen or more and some nasty crossbows waiting behind the pointy wall, and the enemy will rout pretty quick.

Now, for worthless I don't know, anything in good enough quantities has it's uses, even peasants! Somebody has to manage that battering ram...

For funny, I gotta go with Assassin. Every time my assassin fails an assanination, I cry inside but grow a smile when I see the movie.

They barely provide any extra oomph compared to the predecessors, and are only top dogs for a short while (going from fortress to citadel is pretty quick compared to reaching fortress...). Pretty stupid design for a unit that is supposed to dominate the medieval battlefield. I set the baron's stable to produce them to make them a bit more common.

I totally agree. I'm modding the game to get Feudal Knights from castle level. Mailed Knights are waay too numerous in the game.

Greek Firethrowers. What a waste of money for twenty guys who only shoot right before a charge killing two horses and getting ripped to shreds by the rest.

Actually Greek Flamethrowers are quite effective,used right. There strength is in siege battles,you position them so that anything that comes through the gates runs into concentrated fire,and the units routs almost immediatley.

Russisans have two units which have absolutely identical stats, the dism. druzhina and dism. boyar sons. Am i missing something? Same morale same discipline and also armor. Where is the catch?

if im not mistaking (and odds are, i am) its just a cosmetic difference. i think they even have the same upkeep and abilities.

but i like to have an equal amount of both in my armies, instead of just several of 1. mix it up a little.


i find mailed knights pretty good; i use them because i prefer the sight of tear drop kite shields and mailed knights to the look of fuedal knights. of course in a serious army (with my king) chivalric is the way to go.

useless: Italian Militia. looks good, sounds good, performs crappy in combat. italian spear militia is a surprisingly enormous step up.

Another unit I hate is the forlon hope? (HRE)



Like the Sherwood Archers it's got less units than the zwei hander and the zwei hander is only a little worse and cheaper (I think). Wierd. Unlike the Sherwood archers, they're not cool and funny.


Prussian Iron, at least they're better than the normal generic miltia.

forlorn hope are awesome! send them in once a breach is made int he walls and youve won.

and zweihander is like the same only a little worse stats.

Use Forlorn Hope if you can't get Zwei Handers. Otherwise, use the latter.

wtf? i always play on huge settings; theres no point in playing a game that incluudes the crusades and all the wars in medieval europe if you're only using a few hundred men max in a full stack.

i'm fairly sure that they are both the same strength, or forlorn hope a bit more. whichever is worse is gonna have more.

HELL YES!!! I hate Pilgrims; i just want my unhorsed knights and crusader spearmen!!! thier equivalents for muslim factions is horrible as well. Ghazis i think?

I think pilgrims go in both funny and worthless. You've got to laugh when they get cut into tiny pieces when there's a cavalry charge nearby.

I believe so, yes. Quite an awful thought actually, sending pilgrims to take the barrage of arrows...
