I find this poll and analysis very encouraging.

For all the anger felt by Republicans, they are not a very radical group of people. They divide 50-50 on whether they wish to see religion exercise more influence in American life than it does today. Only one-fifth of Republicans think abortion should be illegal in all cases. The party still holds a substantial pro-choice minority: 35% think abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Half of the Republicans and Republican leaners surveyed said they “never” listen to Rush Limbaugh – more than say they never listen to MSNBC.

The killings in Washington you mean? They haven't confirmed the suspect yet, though it does look bad for Huckabee. Still, it wasn't an outrageous clemency.

The more ideological ones are more likely to vote though, especially in the primaries. And seeing as how the Primary system for the Repubs is FPTP, a tiny majority of radicals voting in certain states would out-weigh states that have few radicals.

A man convicted of robbery (and maybe something else) was sentenced to 95 years in prison at age 17. Huckabee granted clemency six or seven years later. The man returned to crime and was returned to prison.

Then he was released, came to Washington state, was arrested and charged with assault on an officer and child rape, then let loose on bail.

Then he went to a coffee shop south of Seattle and killed four police officers sitting there at 8:15 in the morning.

Last night he was shot and killed by a cop in Seattle.

I don't think Huckabee deserves any of the fallout he's getting on this. Entirely unfair.
