How do I get to Quebec

Not sure if this question has been fully resolved or not, but just to make it crystal clear I thought I'd post a picture.


Where is Quebec?
Quebec is the settlement marked with a red circle in the top left of the screenshot. As you can see I've just captured it, and this was effectively the last turn of this stage of the campaign.

How do I get there?
Well there are actually several ways to get to it. There are two land bridges across the St. Lawrence River marked A and B on the screenshot. So, troops can simply march across the river and then along the far bank to Quebec.

However, its not normally that simple. The French usually keep strong garrisons at Montreal and at the fort marked with blue circles on the map, and to be honest I never had the money to raise an army strong enough to fight my way through.

There is a third land bridge at C which might allow you to bypass Montreal and its garrison, but I suspect the French would react to any attempt to use it.

Whats the best way to take Quebec?
Not sure its the best way, but it worked for me.

What I actually did was send a fleet with an army around the top of the map and up the St. Lawrence River. I had already blockaded all the French Canadian Ports anyway so I already had ships in the area. Once the fleet was in position I sent cavalry and scouts round the to raid the settlements around Montreal. (As I recall these troops, had march round the head of the St.Lawrence and in through the Indian territories)

The French reacted by sending the garrison from Quebec south to deal with the threat leaving Quebec unguarded.

As soon as the French marched out of Quebec I landed my army at the small fishing port which you can just see burning in the far left of the shot. When you land troops at a port they can march immediately so as you can see they made it to Quebec the same turn and Ninja'd the victory location. In fact I also managed to march a few troops over the land bridge at A to reinforce them the same turn, because the French removed the garrison from the fort guarding the crossing.

What do you get for completing the whole Campaign?
The main thing you get is the ability to play the Grand Campaign as the United States. That was my main interest in completing it.
