    Check your missions page in the game. At least there, protectorates DO NOT count towards the campaign objectives.

    ye they def dont count, i just felt like making my game more interesting by giving myself a large ally. aside from russia. so i pumped saxony up like crazy giving them most of austria and all the minor provinces in central europe. but ye they still didnt help me in any of my wars :(

    I wouldn't consider gifting the AI inordinate amounts of land and then wondering why it doesn't know what to a break down in the AI. Afterall it only does what it's told to do, and many of the minor factions probably are only after provinces X,Y and Z.
