I am going to be away on a backpacking trip from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon. At the time I scheduled this, I expected the game to be long over by this weekend. However, the two episodes of forum problems have thrown a massive wrench into the works and completely screwed up my schedule. Until yesterday, I expected to be able to finish the current day phase and the next night phase before I left, thus making my absense a simple 36 hour day phase. Unfortunately, this second forum seizure has destroyed that plan as well. I don't want to leave the game stuck in a night phase, so I am going to have to extend the current day phase until Sunday afternoon. I'm very sorry about this, but there was no way for me to predict this stuff when I organized the trip over a month ago. I have no idea exactly when I will be back on Sunday, so I will refrain from specificying a specific time for the phase to end. However, by that point there will surely have been enough time for people to make up their minds about how they want to vote, so I will end the phase as soon as I get back on Sunday, whenever that is.

Amusingly, I just got back from the trip. Since the forums appear to have just re-opened, I'll give it until early evening before I end the phase. There were only a few hours left when it crashed, so I think ending it between about 5-6pm will be fair.

    Default Day X

“Delay not; swift the flight of fortune's greatest favours."
    - Lucius Annaeus Seneca

The Senate session was long and heated, but just as things were coming to a head, a shadow appeared over the sun. Every man, woman, and child in Roman cried out in fear and ran for their lives. Inside the Curia, the Senators could do nothing but gape in awe at the spectacle. It seemed to last an eternity, but eventually the shadow passed and light returned to the world. When at last some of the men regained their composure, none could remember what they had previously been talking about.

It was at that point that an older man in a fine, white toga stood up and gave a summary of everything that had previously occurred. He kindly summarized who everyone else had voted for and why. When he got to Greyblades, he indicated that he had lodged a vote for Iskander 3.1. Greyblades scratched his head quizzically. "Eh, actually, I think I voted for...[/B], he began, but the man soon cut him off. "Nonsense! Only an imbecile would do something like that, and since you're not an imbecile, you must not have done it. No, in fact I remember your persuasive arguments against Iskander 3.1 very well. You most certainly made a wise and educated argument against him!" Greyblades shrugged his shoulders, "Well, if you say so, I suppose I did intend to vote for Iskander 3.1."

When the votes were finally tallied, Iskander 3.1 was in the lead by a single vote. He looked about him, mainly focusing on his fellow Populares. He sighed deeply and shook his head. "So, this is what is to become of Rome then? Sad... sad indeed." He strode out into the Curia, boldly confronting the bloody fate which soon engulfed him.

Iskander 3.1: 4 (khaan, Jolt, TheFlax, Greyblades)
    Beefy187: 3 (johnhughthom, Iskander, Split)

(Note: Despite what I said before, I have refrained from WoGing Beefy because the chaos caused by the forum implosion provides a reasonable excuse for missing a vote here.)

I know it's a bit frustrating but it's part of the game, it's probably worked for and against everyone involved so far. I guess it's easy for me to say as my vote change didn't effect anything.
I guess it leaves me as a target for tonight. Unless the rest of the players look at Sasaki's reasons for me (and Iskander) being under suspicion and realise how feeble (non-existant) they are. I haven't played many mafia games but I find it bizarre how so many people allow somebody who is "dead" to control how they play.

I dont have a problem with the method, I mean a vote switch is a valid and understandable ability for a mafia game, I have a problem with the execution. It depicts me saying: "I suppose I did intend to vote for Iskander 3.1." In reality I thought he was a populares and I had apsolutely no intention to kill off a teammate.

Why, aren't Optimates your teammates? Since that is so, it makes sense Cicero killed off your "teammate".

Vote switching is part of the game so that I can live with (even though I died). The .org being down is what was most frustrating, since not everyone was able to get their vote in in time.

I think khaan may be the Cicero.

The day phase was almost done when the org went down. While I certainly understand that many probably did not check the forums in the time between when it came back up and when I closed the day phase, I already gave the game several hours longer than it really had left. At the time of the forum problems, there were 3 hours left; after it came back up, I gave it 7 hours before closing it. That seemed reasonable to me at the time and it still does. I've already delayed this game several times and I don't want to keep doing so out of respect for the other hosts who are waiting for this game to end so that they can start their own up. I am very hopeful that we will be able to sustain 24 hour phases for the rest of the game without further interruption.

One thing is certain. It is the second time in a row that Cicero saves beefy from impending doom. Since apparently beefy is Optimates, if Cicero really is Mafia, then he must be one of the Optimates. I would bet that beefy is Cicero.

    Default Night XI

“It is when fortune is the most propitious that she is least to be trusted.”
    - Titus Livius

As the night grew dark, many Senators sat in their villas, afraid of what fortune might bring their way. Yet as the hours crept past without incident they slowly relaxed and began to forget their worries. Soon wine and music both flowed freely in the dwellings of Rome. When dawn broke, no unusual incidents of any kind were reported within the city limits. Could this be so? Was this the end of the chaos? Had the issue finally been settled once and for all?

As the Senators filed into the Curia in the morning, a note nailed to the doors was all the answer they needed:

    Lurking mafia= Beefy?

I was around all day yesterday. It would've been easy for me to send in orders.

Do I sense a "Hey lets not kill anyone and blame it on Beefy" tactic?
I've been on the verge of lynch for couple days now. Not once have I voted for other candidate to save my self..
I may be grouped with Cicero.. But I hate him for what he did in the past..

You have been saved from being lynched for 2 turns now by a probable ceaser supporter. Assuming that cicero is a mafia he wouldn't have saved you unless you were either mafia or even cicero himself, either way someone made us kill a townie instead of you for 2 turns now. Sorry mate but I dont see anyone else as suspicious as you.

Time to reveal the truth perhaps... or at least one part of it...

Beefy you are being voted for by the small group not because they think your mafia but because they think/now your an optimate... they have decided to go for victory condition (2)

    The group is/was

    Iskander
    Johnhugh
    Split
    Greyblades

In fairness split was the least enthusiastic of the group... if this was a cover or he genuinely wasn't sure about the group... i don't know...

Isk was the one who approached me originially, then i got him to reveal his brother john and then they decided to use beefy as a target and as far as i know that is when they approached grey and split...

Of course the last bit could have been set out for me... i wasn't sure to what level they didn't trust me but they did reveal both of themselves when i gave a positive response...

This does make the 2 brothers top candidates...

Less sure about split because he was defending himself when there was a kill and grey because he was attacking split when there was a kill...

Beefy seen as they are out to kill you just because your an optimate how about joining us in....

    Vote Johnhughthom

After we lynch John and clear some other people i don't think were far off...

    Sorry for the betrayal....
