Marathas is invading Europe

So right now it's 1780 in my Prussia campaign and Marathas control all of India and started attacking west, taking out the Islamic factions, took the eastern half of Russia, and now is about to kill Austria (who were just at war with me so they had no real armies left) by attacking into the Balkans.

Around 1740 Portugal was killed off by Spain, and the Dutch taken out by Westphalia by 1750 (who were also winning a grind-out war with France). Every other faction ignored India, and with Marathas controlling the entire theater, they quickly became more powerful than any other faction.

I am attempting to get a coalition of remaining European factions to go to war with Marathas. Hey, maybe I can get the pope to declare a crusade?

Hope they get more Euro factions to invade India next patch.

Awesome! That is a good development, and interesting change from the inertia of previous versions... in my latest game, the UP took French Guyana and the French took Curacao by Naval Invasion! Austria also recaptured Istanbul/Constantinople for Christendom.

Sounds really exciting... I suspect Mughals would have gone the same route in my campaign. Unfortunately for them I was playing British, but before I started grabbing Indian provinces, Mughals had eliminated Marathas, Mysore, absorbed Portuguese holdings and were breathing down Ottoman necks near Armenia.

Normally Persia holds back either Marathas or Mughals in my previous campaigns. However, around early 1760's they lost a crucial battle against an outnumbered Marathas stack near their city. When they lost their troops retreated and Marathas took the city. After that they steamrolled Ottomans, who were pretty dead already from fighting both Russia and Austria, and once they had the resources of those lands they built more stacks and just hammered what remained of Russia and Austria's armies.

They're 1 region away from me now. I hope they send lots of elephants

In my current UP campaign, it took the Maratha Conf. a grand total of 20 turns to wipe out the Mughal Empire. They seem way to aggressive.

I actually had a world war. It was me (Georgia), a bunch of factions moslty minor caused most of the major factions were dead and a few major ones like spain and Russia and Poland vs, Britian and the Dutch. It was every single faction against both the british/dutch alliance. The dutch controled most of europe while the British controled about a 1/3 of the Americas. I had taken the AE and Barbery States and Persia. Man was that ever fun. Seeing the Dutch empire fall in just about 25 turns lol. The British had just their island and a few other islands. So I invaded the Britsh and that is one difficult island to take. Anyways long story short the Allies(me) beat the Axis(the evil Dutch that decided to declare war on me muhahaha). It is funny seeing them being attacked from all fronts from natives, to Indians, to Europeans lol.

Most of my campaigns in all the games have been pretty straight forward.

I've got a peculiar situation... about 1750ish, Marathas have invaded Russia - my North African expeditionary force has pushed them back beyond Damascus, and I recently 'liberated' Anatolia. Sweden is large, owning much of Russia as well - the natives are being pushed back to the Urals. Meanwhile, in Western Europe, my Papal forces are working on Protestant resistance from the BEF and Dutch armies in central Europe. An uneasy detente exists with the Austrians, who are keeping the Prussians on a tight leash. Poland, France, Spain and the Ottomans have fallen by the wayside.

Rather conveniently, whenver the Marathas choose to declare war, I take a region, and with a little cunning diplomacy, negotiate a peace settlement which boosts my rather lagging technology level. (Clever little Indians seem to be way up the tech tree).

Gah! Stabbed in the back!

Most of Europe has declared war against the Marathas horde, and I sent 3 stacks to fight in the east and they're making quick progress in the Balkans and Crimea. 2 stacks were sent to capture Ceylon as a forward base to attack India. That left my entire western and northern frontiers with no stacks, but hey, I'm on very friendly relations with my neighbors so no worries right?

End turn, well whaddaya know, Sweden disputes my succession, and promptly went for Denmark. France ninja attacks Flanders and Alsace-Lorraine (well, can't really complain about this, saw this coming way beforehand). 2 out of 3 of my eastern stacks are forced to redeploy to the west, and 1 remaining stack has to give up Crimea. 1 out of 2 stacks are coming back from Ceylon.

Oh, and France just dropped 5 fleets on my trade route and my main fleet is in India

Finally got to the fun part of the game lol.

I don’t know if I like the conspiratorial AI stuff at the end of the game. Next there will be earthquakes and flood which only effect you…

I have to say that I too noticed an expansion of the Marathas in my game. It's the 1740's and I think they pretty much control all of India and just last night I noticed they took some land away from the Ottomans, Persia and the Mamelukes control only one province each. Glad to see the naval invasions are taking effect even if I don't see the troop ships sailing around.

It is just a product of the new changes.

It is so easy to play even the AI is conquering the world as MC.

The old balance was better…even if everyone had too much money and troops.

Well looks like the AI can stab itself in the back too. The Persians, Ottomans, Austrians, Mamlukes, Georgians, Dagestan, and Mughals all rebel within a few turns and now Marathas is screwed. I took Paris, burned it down and left, and after the French came back, Spain declares war on them, so they pretty much be bothering me for awhile.

Alas, a Marathan Europe. I recall in my campaign when the Inuits invaded - in kayak and all - Europe, destroying the UK, Spain and Portugal. I held them back at Vienna, but was devastated. Later, I formed an alliance with the Ottomans and finally pushed them back to the Americas.

I'm a little busy with the British, they insisted on going to war with me twice for no reason in the Americas, between me and the French, we have pushed them all the way to Canada and the upper North East. And for fun, I gave my captured territories to Mexico, US and Qubec.

I'm also currently in the planning stages of conquering the Barbary States now that I kicked the Ottomans out of their last stronghold in North Africa. Last time I played, Prussia had just gone to war with the Marathas.

Lastly, I'm actually on really good terms with the Marathas If anything, I should ally myself to them and start carving up Europe and North Africa between the both of us. I'm not getting involved unless they declare war on my allies, Spain and France.......or if Prussia falls since they are the only major power (Austria is gone, Poland is weak) in the area that's between Italy and Marathas.
