Thread: Can't Play Grand Campaign as US?

Default Can't Play Grand Campaign as US?

Hello. I finished the Road to Independence. I also then played as Maratha Confed and won the "short" grand campaign. I figured this, like in prior TW games, would unlock the other playable nations, like the US or even some of the other nations.

However, I don't see any way to play as, for example, the US in the Grand Campaign. Is that because the time period is 1700 - 1799?

Are there other nations that get "unlocked" upon completion of the first Grand Campaign??

I'm afraid not... The US isn't available in the grand campaign in the same way as the other factions either, chapter 4 of the RTI is as close as you can get to the US "grand campaign ".

Yeah... US didn't have independence until 1776 so that really would be a stretch to play in 1700...

Even though they did put in the UK as all of the British Isles even though Scotland didn't join till 1707

The only way that I am aware of to play the US is simply to continue to play them after you complete the objectives of Chapter 4 of the RTI. When one starts the 4th chapter of the RTI, you are basically playing a grand campaign as the US because all the other factions are now present in the game--as opposed to chapter 3 where the other factions are limited to those only present in the Americas.

The big difference playing the US like this is that it is late in the century and everybody else in the world is a bit further along in technology. I continued to play as the US until about 1830 or so and had conquered all of the Americas plus Scotland, Ireland, England, Spain, and France, Morocco, the Barbary pirate states, and was preparing to launch into central Europe. I also had about 500k in in treasury, but the new patch changed the financial dynamics so much that I lost about 200k before I could disband enough troops to get a positive cash flow again.

Since I still had a boatload more money than I would have if I had started the game pre-patch it felt a bit like I had used a financial exploit, so I gave it up to start a new grand campaign as England, but I may try the US again later.

As the others have mentioned, if you think about it, the US did not exist for the first 76 years of the game, so the RTI campaign done in chapters was probably the best way to properly represent and into duce them into the game.

I'm sure there will eventually be so mods that might change all of this.

    Cheers

Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

There is a mod that changes that. It is the unlock all minor factions mod. So you can play as the 13 colonies in the grand campaign right from the start.

One thing that annoys me greatly in RtI4 is how there is a small technology difference at the start, but not by much... Different AI factions have a few big leads in different areas though, and in the AI's first turn it seems like they all trade all their technology and jump waaaay ahead of me.
