    Default Space Invaders has better AI!

    I am quite depressed in consequence of the Artificial Stupidity of the ETW AI.

    I visited the doctor yesterday and he said that my brain was literally shutting down due to a magnified dosage of a chemical known as antimendaci, which is a known anti-body specifically used by the immune system to deflect external neanderthalism.

    Anyway, I think I know why.

    I was playing ETW yesterday and the AI, who had artillery, brought it's best guns out straight through the ranks of infantry (I was watching just to see how the AI would work on offense), pushed the weapons up to my line whilst leaving the infantry and scarce cavalry behind, and once fifty yards away from my troops, halted.

    The AI then turned it's artillery around to face it's own troops, who began marching in column towards the artillery.
    The cavalry went and hid in the woods - two hundred yards behind their starting point - and the infantry, after reaching the artillery, promptly turned around and lined themselves perfectly prepared for battle in the opposite direction.


    After seeing this, I took the disc from the drive and put it inside the case.
    Then I bound the case to a branch of pine with 4mm wire and went out into the streets, where I began to shout:

    'This is the reason why the human race shall in the next four generations be no more than a demented and disfigured family of apes with supercomputers and washing machines.'

    The people of my town rallied behind me and we marched to the oval field, where we set up a cross of 4x4 timber and nailed the branch up.

    Then as darkness fell we danced around the flames and sung hymns, lavishing in the death of evil, and later the children were amazed by the sparklers and the old men told stories around the smouldering ash of the crucifix.

    Never again.

    Haha, brings one of the in-game quotes of Sun Tzu to my mind. I don't remember it word by word, by literally it's saying:

    "You don't need to defeat an attacker, but just take away his willingness to attack!"

    Basically the AI did that to you, so don't complain - it seems rather smart, following the art of war...

    I have had no instances of stupid battle AI.

    Usually I have more problems with deploying my troops.

    Why is it the game only allows you to hide on one side of a wall? And why is it always the side the enemy is coming from?

    Now if we go on to the subject of the campaign AI that is a whole other issue. Friends and trade partners declaring war for no reason. Minors going to war just because you are next door.

    The new more aggressive AI is a farce. They declare war but with the other changes they have no money for troops so they hold up in their cities and wait for you to come to them.

    Something needs to be done. If naval invasions did work then it would turn into a real mess.

    At the moment I figure the reason they don’t take place is because no one has enough troops! And if the troops were there then we would all be overwhelmed by the flood of minor armies attacking.

    Pirates taking Jamaica and Iceland no doubt. Persians attacking Mexico. Give me a break!

    Dude, you do realise that holding down the button whilst the "hiding in front of/behind the fence" mode is selected allows you to drag your troops to whichever side of the wall you wish, right?

    Right?

    The barbary states corsairs did raid Iceland (though the Icelanders blame it on "Turks" due to a historical misunderstanding:p). Sadly these issues are pretty much the same as have plagued the series through all iterations.

    What difficulty do you play?

    Also you dont need to keep the disk in the drive, the game runs without it aswell.

    Okay! I will give it a try.

    I had to auto resolve all the land battles for so long because they wouldn’t load.

    The patch has at last fixed that but I am far behind most of you on some of the aspects of land battles.

    Okay then.
    Only deploying behind one side of a wall was a problem before one of the patches. You should have been able to deploy on either side, but some walls were bugged i think. I experienced the same issue.

    Since then, the only that I have had with walls is related your units insisting on deploying 3 deep, and also at a particular point in the wall ( I can't pick exactly where they center the unit).

    I have had artillery deployed behind a "trench" fortification fall to its death when attempting to move through the fortification, or else get stuck in the trench and not do anything (even retreat). Its quite frustrating.
