Thread: Vanilla turns sour

    Default Vanilla turns sour

Like many others with the new patch, things weren't working right, so I uninstalled ETW, as I had forgotten to make back ups of some of my modded files. I made a fresh install. Then the fun began. When I started up my new clean copy I get the white page of death. The very first load screen appears and then I get the standard MS warning that there has been a problem with my program and it has been closed; would I like to send a report? I have restarted and shut down my computer numerous times and also made ANOTHER wipe and install of ETW in case something had gone awry. I have tried running steam in offline mode and am now in the process of doing the long download from steam itself, rather than the disks, though they had not given me any of the possible scratched warning signs, not that they were. Empire ran fine before hand, it isn't a hardware issue as far as I can see. I was just having some problem with mods talking to each other and the new patch and wanted to start fresh. Can anyone tell me if I have missed some glaringly obvious oversight or offer any advice?

    Default Precepts for the wise

    Yo dude.

When I got it, at first I couldn't install ETW. As you said, it repeatedly kept trying to install from Steam when I had the Goddamn discs in my possession -- something that was obviously quite vexing.

I found this bloke's advice to be wonderful:-

Nota Bene: After I followed his instructions & got everything set up, I did an Anti-virus search & discovered that my rig was riddled with the little buggers. Nothing to do with Empire, my own fault (don't ask), but upon making this discovery I had to uninstall everything, format the hard-disc & reinstall Empire again.

Once my rig was cleaned of the virus, Empire installed flawlessly first time, straight from the DVD.

Not saying that's what's happened to you, but it's what went down in my gaff. I don't think Empire likes malware, & if I may make so bold as to make a completely baseless, rather superstitious & amateurishly speculative thrust, I can only attribute my crappy system's happiness running Empire since I de-virused (is that a word?) to its malware-free state.

I have gently suggested this to others but normally meet with a storm of approbation...

You delete the userdata information, it fixes it.

Thanks. I deleted my user data in the documents and settings area and it works fine. I guess the old data wasn't meshing with the new, and the poor thing got confused. Thanks everyone!
