Default TF Mini Mafia I - Mass Effect [Concluded]

After playing 4 out of 5 of ATPG's Mini Mafia's I finally decided to try my hand at one. As indicated by the numeral, I hope that this will be the first of several such games, exploring themes not available in ATPG's games.

For this first installment I've decided upon Mass Effect.

    Aboard the Normandy
    Conference room

Commander Shepard's face turned grim as he assessed each member of his team one by one. During his mission to expose and hunt down the rogue Specter Saren, Shepard had accumulated many allies and several of those, aliens. Little was known of these beings' past and perhaps even their apparent motivations were pretenses. As the fully armed and armored commander of the Normandy paced around the room, he tried to notice some sign, some clue that one of them had be affected. In the end he shook his head and resigned himself that they would have to proceed with an internal inquiry.

"The Council has just informed me of rather disturbing rumors." Shepard addressed his team, looking at no one in particular. "It seems that in our hunt for Saren, some of our numbers have been unwittingly indoctrinated by Sovereign to pose as double agents in our midst."

"Commander, from what we know of Sovereign, that is not possible. We have never been in direct contact with the ship!" Liara T'Soni had spoken up, enthusiastic as usual.

Shepard raised an eyebrow; Liara's mother, Matriarch Benezia, had already been indoctrinated and had proven to be a foe in the hunt for Saren. Perhaps, like her mother, Liara, had become a tool for Saren and his army of Geth?

"Nevertheless, we need to ascertain the truth of the matter." Garrus Vakarian replied. Once a member of Citadel Security, or C-Sec, he had led the investigation on Saren. Yet, like Saren, he was a Turian. How far could he be trusted?

"I don't like it." Groaned Urdnot Wrex, a Krogan Battlemaster and a bounty hunter. Little was known of his past, but it had been undoubtedly violent as there were no peaceful Korgans. Could a mercenary killer be trusted?

"We can't just ignore this!" Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams interjected. She had joined the team when Shepard had rescued her on Eden Prime and they had thwarted Saren's plan to destroy the colony. She had been the sole survivor of her squad, perhaps not by chance?

"I still do not understand how this could be. As Doctor T'Soni has explained, it should be impossible." Tali'Zorah nar Rayya intoned. A member of the mysterious Quarian species, she lived constantly in a suit which protected the weak immune system of her species against the pathogens harmless to the other races, it also served to conceal her features. Her people had long ago created the Geth, which had turned on them and now apparently served Saren. What if she had a connection to Saren?

Staff Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko shrugged. "Whatever you decide commander, we'll do it." Kaidan had been with Shepard from the start and he trusted him, as much as himself. Yet, Sovereign was reputed to be extremely powerful, what if either of them had been indoctrinated? Would he know if it happened to him? If he could not trust himself, how could he blindly trust Kaidan?

Shepard sat down, holding his head in both hands, trying to figure out who could be indoctrinated. Apparently, the rest of the team was doing likewise as the uncomfortable silence in the room attested. He knew it would not last, soon people would start accusing each other. He only hoped they would get to the bottom of this without losing anyone.

    Commander Shepard, ahoy!

Have you ever played it on insanity mode, TheFlax? I got through the first level, but when at the dance club when those two assassins come to attack you, it took 10 minutes for me to kill them. I vowed not to play Insanity mode without weapons/equipment and level 1 again.

I'm doing it at level 57 with Specter Master Gear.

Ok, its not quite the same level of achievement, I'll agree.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

But this is where the real difficulties begin, since each student inevitably selects, constitutes criteria, according to his own unconscious assumptions, social, ethical or political. I dare you to do what I did. Restart the game as level 1, no gear on insanty mode and do the first level. You will laugh so much, as the game looks so ridiculous while you are doing it. Especially as Kaidan and Ashley drop like flies within seconds of combat.

I know what is going to happen, I am going to get burdened with a townie/good role and everyone will just call me guilty, opposed to when I was actually a mafia-role and was guilty but won the game.

We are going about this the wrong way. Being the winner of the last two by PizzaGuy, I know what things won it for me being a Mafia-member.

The thing that helped me win the most, is that no one knew who was which player. because of this, all the clues in the write-up went unlooked as no one knew who that person is. Because no one knew I was Ki Mundi in the Sith game, I wasn't exposed as a Sith untill it was too late. Because no one knew I was Uhura, all the clues and violent Klingon nature weren't given.

As there are no night phases, there is nothing to hide role wise if you are a good person, as you won't be assassinated. The only times the enemy can strike are basically on ties.

I will come out first, and I would like all other players to state who they are. Anyone who fails to come out I prepose we shot them in the head. (lynch them)

I am Commander John Shepard, I order the rest to follow by example for the safety of the team and the crew.

Hey folks sorry for the delay. Just woke up.

I'm this guy: Kaidan Alenko. Which is pretty awesome because it contains most of the letters of my real name.

I think a lynch is a good idea, and seeing as there is no evidence at this point I'll go for the least talkative player, just to get him discussing.

More importantly, has anyone played the game Mass Effect? I haven't even HEARD of it before. Any information would be useful, and I don't really feel like reading wikipedia pages atm.

Yeah, I am a player of here. Here is the quick debrief.

Me (Commander Sheperd) is this kick-*** human who gets offered to be a spectre, but first, he must prove himself. His proving mission goes wrong when there is a Geth attack on Eden Prime by Sovereign led by Saren.

They come across and beacon which says about the apocolyse and they say about this to the council, the Council don't believe you, as Saren is their top spectre. You eventually prove it and all this business, blah blah.

Anyway, we should lynch anyone who doesn't role reveal.

It is somewhat more interesting and complex than that.
