    Default Re: AŠKĀNĪĀN

    here is some references :
ARSACIDS, THE (Persian Aškānīān), Parthian dynasty which ruled Iran from about 250 B.C. to about 226 A.D.
In about 245 B.C., during the reign of the Seleucid monarch Seleucus II (r. 246-25 B.C.), Andragoras, the Seleucid satrap of the province of Parthava, made himself independent. Soon afterwards, ca. 239 B.C., his example was followed by Diodotus, satrap of Bactria, a Seleucid satrapy which was to play a significant role for more than a hundred years as the Greco-Bactrian kingdom.

The reasons for the defection of these two satrapies in such rapid succession are not known, nor is the extent to which the inhabitants, i.e. Macedonians, Greeks, and the natives, participated in the rebellions (cf. E. Will, Histoire politique du monde hellénistique [323-30 av. J. C.] I2, 1979, pp. 281ff.) At any rate, the Parni exploited the defection of these two eastern provinces of the Seleucid kingdom by launching an invasion into Parthia, ca. 238 B.C., in the course of which Andragoras met his death. Shortly afterwards they also occupied Hyrcania. It is likely that the term Parthians was applied to the Parni during this period after their occupation of the satrapy of Parthava and subsequently, no doubt, they came to use the designation themselves. Originally, therefore, Parthava is to be understood as a geographical term; then, in the form “Parthian,” it became the name of a people when the Parni invaders started to extend their kingdom.
The Greek legends, almost invariably in the genitive case, are set in a square, and always include the dynastic name Arsaces in addition to the royal title Great King (basiléōs megálou) or, from Mithradates II onward, more often King of the Kings (basiléōs basiléōn) and to epithets which gradually become more numerous. The epithets are at first manifestly political assertions, but later become stereotyped strings of words losing their immediate political sense (e.g. basiléōs basiléōn Arsákou euergétou dikaíou epiphanoûs philéllēnos). The king’s personal name is only mentioned in exceptional circumstances such as struggles for the throne when rival kings held power in different areas (e.g. epikalouménou Mithradátou on coins of Mithradates III; kekalouménos Gōtérzēs on coins of Gotarzes II). After Vologases I, however, the king’s personal name appears regularly on the tetradrachms. On the drachms the Greek legends become increasingly corrupt from about Orodes II onward, first in the mints of the northeastern frontier provinces.

About Basileion ton Asias: That would be quite wrong for several reasons.

    a) In those times, Greek states would be called as "people living in a state" instead of "state of people". So it should just remain Baktria (land of the Baktrioi, or "the state of the Baktrians living in Baktria").
    b) Basileion ton Asias is both wrong grammatically, as well as topologically. Grammatically, ton means "of the" in Greek. That's for masculine nouns, not feminine as Baktria is. The correct form would be Basileion tes Baktrias, though the "tes" is not needed. So simply Basileion Asias would, grammatically, be correct. Topoligically, "Asia" encompasses too much land to refer solely to the Baktrian Kingdom of the Hellenes. The Seleukeis also belonged to Asia, so why shouldn't they be called Arche Asias (Empire/Rule of the East)? Because it doesn't differ them from a bunch of other city-states, kingdoms and various confederations that existed in the vastness of what is Asia. A much better subtitute, would be Basileion Baktries, or "Kingdom of Baktria".

My aim is Maion is name states even after their losing homelands. For example when I capture Makedonia or Bactria they have still same Makedonia, Baktria, ... I really do not know how to solve ... ( I do not destroy factions, not like Romani barbaroi)

For Baktria "Basileion Hellenion Asias or Indou" should be logical but not sure historical accurate...
second one must be for Indo-Greek kingdom
P.S. Online Greek translators are bulls...t!

Ah, I see now. So you want a name that can be used even when you move them somewhere else? But that doesn't make much sense, since you could move, say, Epeiros to Megale Hellas/Illyria/Atropatene/Pergamon. How could you possibly find out a name that encompasses all these options?

I suggest you stick with the names that are given per default, or you can always ask me or anyone else for suggestions as to what other names you could give a faction when you move them around. Maybe "Indohellenikon Basileion" (Indo-Hellenic Kingdom) could be a potential candidate for moving Baktria around the eastern-most parts of the EB map, but really I wouldn't advice it. But it's your call anyway. And I know on-line Greek translations suck. Big time.

Interesting traits, though I advise you to change the "Startegos" (General) for "Satrapes" (Satrap).

like : Satrapeia Armenias or Satrapeia tes Armenias?

EB Team used these for original titles themselves for AS that I did not touch them:

    Archon tes Makedonias
    Archon tes Aigyptou
    Strategos tou Indou
    Epistrategos tes Mikras Asias
    Satrapeia Baktrias

    P.S. These are ancillaries BTW

OK ancillaries, my bad. Archon is correct as well and, as I said 2 posts above, the "tes" or "ton" are unneccesary.
