Default marian reforms - does it have to be 172 bc?

I'm confused... I want to get marian reforms. If i don't have a character with traits mentioned in the faq, than do i have to conquer 90 settlements AND be in 172 bc or just conquer 90 settlements without reaching 172 bc?

You can get get anytime after you have started polibian reforms and conquered 90 cities. I changed it 50 city though.

yeah finding a suitable general is way too demanding... by the time I found one guy who was sharp/charismatic...popularis I already had about 80 provinces. I wish the reforms were earlier so I didn't have to rely on Italian troops entirely for so long.

Um... you can totally edit the EBBS_SCRIPTS to make it way earlier. Ive done it twice.

When you get to that document, press control+f

Type in "unconditional" and press the find next button 3 times.

This will get you to the unconditional player reforms. Now this is what it looks like.

    ;Unconditional Player Reforms
    monitor_event FactionTurnEnd FactionType seleucid
    and FactionIsLocal
    and I_CompareCounter Romanii_Reform = 1
    and I_NumberOfSettlements seleucid > 89

In the last line, change 89 to whatever number of provinces you wish. It will activate only after polybian reforms.

*note* 89 provinces actually means 90. So whatever you put in, you will actually need 1 less.

Its quite easy to do yourself, as I am an idiot when it comes to this stuff and I know how to do it.

    Enjoy.

why would it have to be in 172BC? marian reforms occurred in 107BC

Because 172BC is the earliest you can get the marian reforms in EB, unless you mod it.

And because VERY FEW people play till 107BC

I've not made it to 107 yet. I ususally start a new campaign because i don't end up playing for a bit for some reason or another. I intend to do it some day. Especially as Averni. I want to bust Rome's face in. Payback time baby. 2200 years late... but payback none the less.

Tried the trick VAl recommended. Didn't work for me. Changed "89" to "45", conquered 46, but nothing.

I want these reforms, but it almost seems unrealistic to get them the old fashion way.

Really? I was going to change the territory requirements as well for my next Romani campaign. This is most regrettable :(

Does anyone else have any tips? Or did zarasophist make a mistake somehow?

It does work. I think he has his EB folder in programs files, in which case it wouldn't work. Believe me I got the marians.

Marius really just made official what had for a while already been the factual reality of the Roman military, though... IIRC part of the "reform trigger" prequisites was specifically simulating the socioeconomic shifts that brought about the shift from the levy system to salaried forces.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."
