    Default Post/Prog rock corner

Seeing all the metal maddness in this forum I had to step up and ask where the post rock/prog rock fans are. This thread is for all those people who like post rock like Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Explosions in the sky, but also for prog rock like Tool, Russian Circles and The mars volta.

Furthermore this is a place to recommend new music in the specific direction, since a lot of new creative bands are jumping on the "post rock" bandwagon.
Here is my first recommendation already: Grails - Silk Rd

Man, you skipped over a lot of classic Progressive rock in that post... I mean, I'm not much of a fan, but I would think that no Progressive rock thread could even be started without Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The only Prog-rock band I really like, as all the others are too soft for me; but I would still suggest some Yes and King Crimson, as well.

I also gotta give a nod to Prog-rock's little brother, Space Rock, specifically Hawkwind: Master of the Universe, Brainstorm and Upside Down. More standard rock, but I still love it.

I was already about to mention older stuff. But let's be honest; as good as the old stuff is, everyone can look up for the bands in the wikipedia. With the modern stuff it is more tricky, and that's what the thread is about.

Woa, don’t give up just yet!!!

I am right behind you, backing you up! The Grails-tune, "silk-road", hit right at home for me! Great stuff and there is plenty of other stuff around as well so there is no reason to give up here. After all, most of the sheeples are essentially stuck in the little pink world of “Eurovision-Song-contest”…. So what the hell can you expect?!?

If you ask me, there is no reason to give this up, it is an excellent initiative and I’ll try to be around when I can and am not too busy with other things. At any rate, I'll be more than happy to travel some in the extremely cool lands of prog-rock!

Keep goin! You are not alone, you got me on this bandwagon as well!

    - Cheers

Also jumping in although I am somewhat new to the softer and more obscure side of prog.

I've been listening to Hybris by Änglagård preaty heavilly this past weak. It's a really weird dense album which can probably best be described as a folkier red era King Crimson, but with there own distinct style. The music is mainly instrumental alternating between rythmic weird time signiture and softer keyboard laced folky pasages.
