It is somewhat more interesting and complex than that.Me (Commander Sheperd) is this kick-as human who gets offered to be a spectre, but first, he must prove himself. His proving mission goes wrong when there is a Geth attack on Eden Prime by Sovereign led by Saren.
They come across and beacon which says about the apocolyse and they say about this to the council, the Council don't believe you, as Saren is their top spectre. You eventually prove it and all this business, blah blah.
