Default Not So Dumb Diplomacy: Has something changed recently?

Has there been a patch or something in the last few days, only I'm starting to see a trend towards sensible diplomacy amongst the AI factions. Yesterday, it was a reasonably sensible declaration of war by the French (which went a bit pear-shaped, but actually might have worked). Today I've just had my first ever request for peace from an AI faction.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Quite impressed with this, although four days ago Sweden's declaration of war on my ally Hannover was pretty dumb and pointless. Sweden was (and is) at war with half the world including Denmark who are blockading its only trading port and so even if they wanted to invade Hannover they could not get to it.

Nevertheless, I had no choice but to declare war on Sweden because Hannover asked me too, and not obliging would have severed a historical link between Hannover and Britain. So, I declared war and sent my home fleet into the Baltic.

There wasn't really much for it to do, the Danes had pretty much got the Swedes bottled up in their ports and going nowhere, and Russia was knocking on the gates of St. Petersburg. But I kept my fleet busy destroying every Swedish port every turn and forcing them to repair them again before bombarding them to ruin again. And I was pretty much prepared to keep doing that for the rest of the game if necessary.

Then I got the above proposal which is pretty much the most sensible thing the Swedes could do. The only thing missing of course is the peace deal with Hannover, but as making a seperate peace deal with them will not damage my relationship with Hannover I think I can accept the deal and just keep a watching brief on any hostile move against my ally.

So, like they say two's a coincidence, but if this carries on I might have to conclude that CA have done something right at last.

It's just a coincidence. I've been playing all night and France has been declaring war every single turn, then accepting peace without hostilities. Then declaring war, then accepting peace, then declaring war, then accepting peace, without hostilities every single time.

Hmmm, for peace treaties, maybe CA should consider mandating a 10-turn cease in hostilities along with every peace treaty. That's what Civ4 does, and I think it works pretty well. At least that way you won't get stuck in a spiral of dec of war, peace treaty, next turn dec of war...etc.
"You must know, then, that there are two methods of fight, the one by law, the other by force: the first method is that of men, the second of beasts; but as the first method is often insufficient, one must have recourse to the second. It is therefore necessary for a prince to know well how to use both the beast and the man.

That would be absolutely wonderful... If CA won't do it and it's possible to mod it in, i'd spend weeks learning the code to do so myself. Man, after my experience with France during this 28 year campaign, a 5-year non hostility pact with every ceasefire would be like a godsend for me.

It has happened that the offered peace but it is very infrequent.

    You just got lucky.

The AI was smarter pre patch. Let us hope it moves back to something resembling that.

As for peace…check today’s update! ROFLMAO

HaHa! the French thought they were being clever. Whilst my main British Army in the America's was in Michigan dealing with the last of the Indian's they attacked the 13 Colonies and ninja'd Maine, The Confederation of New England and New York.

I was just heading back to deal with them when New York rebelled and attacked them first, so France is now at war with the United States.

In my GB campaign, I actually was able to make a trade agreement with Mexico after their successful rebellion from Spain. Even though they hated my guts, -200 on the friend-o-meter, they apparently hated Spain more and wisely made a decision in their nation's best interests and agreed to trade for 5K and some tech.
