    hi,

cavalry. Why did the romans in the marian reforn got no cavalry?
i think in history they got so why not in EB?

and a small extra question: why do the romans have no archers?

    greetings

Marian romans do have Cavalry, just not in Italy.

    Here is what they get.
    Gallic cavalry, recruitable in gaul

    germanic cavalry, recruitable in germania

    spanish cavalry, recruitable in spain

    Thracian cavalry, recruitable in thracia

You must remember that these can only recruited in certain regions.

Also, pre-marian, if the romans used archers, they recruited them as mercenaries. Post-marian, they are recruitable further east, I think in Syria.
EDIT: Nvm, they get them in the imperial reforms. They look like this

    congrats on getting marians.

Yeah, in the later times, as the Roman military branch became more professional and the empire ever-larger, the Romans began to rely on auxiliaries for almost everything but legionaries and the Antesignani. All missile and mounted units came from somewhere else, and Romans themselves stopped recruiting any missile and almost all cavalry units, save for some elite ones, such as bodyguards.

    Vasiliyi is right.

Equites Gallorum are available in all of Gaul and in Galatia (Ancyra) in Asia minor (but not in mediolanum!), it requires roman barracks level 3 or 4, but i think it's 3. Gallic cavalry is the best of all auxilary forces.

Equites Hispanorum are available in all of Spain and in Tolosa, it requires roman barracks level 3.

Equites Thracum are available in Thrace, Byzantion and the asian province opposite to Byzantion, it requires roman barracks level 3 or 4.

Equites Germanorum are available in Germania and Gallic provinces along the Rhine, it requires roman barracks level 3.

You also might wanna try Gallic noble Cavalry, available in Gaul and Mediolanium. It requires regional barracks level 5 and governement number 4, but it's worth it!

Ligurian cavalry also kicks ass, i like it very much, but it requires regional barracks level 3 in Liguria and governement number 3 or 2, so you can't have the homeland out there and recrut cohors evocata.

Other relatively good cavalry units for the Romans are Eastern medium cavalry and eastern skirmisher cavalry, available in Mazaka and Amaseia and everywhere eastwards. They require level 3 and 2 regonal barracks, respectively.

As for the archers, Vasiliyi showed you Syrian archers, but Kretan archers are better, you can recruit them in Krete, Antiochia and Alexandria, they require regional barracks level 4 and governement number 4 or 3, and they are definitely worth the effort of building.

Wished the Romans had those Polish Winged Lancers as Auxilliaries.
Also for Marian Legionnaries you can use the Germanic merc. cavalry, and the Illyrians. Illyrians where among the most used as Auxilliaries by the Romans. In my campaigns I have used every available cavalry and light infantry used historically by the Romans, this gives your army a very colorful image.

    Cheers.

    Yarema

I'd rather discourage recruiting overhand spear cavalry (Like eastern), their charges don't tend to win battles. I rather pick underhand spear cavalry, or even better lance cavalry, only recruitable as mercenaries though.

[QUOTE=Yarema;2261787]As for the archers, Vasiliyi showed you Syrian archers/QUOTE]
Actually those were the Roman Archer Auxilia, not the Regional Syrian unit that is available to all factions, if you really wish to get technical and pedantic...
