    Default EXTREMELY lucky battle

this is one of the most unbelievable things i have ever seen in E:TW. so, though it may be hard to believe, juts bear with me.

so in my russia campaign, i just recently got a military port. being at peace with most of the world, there was no previous need for a navy. but now, i was somehow at war with france, even though i hadnt expanded even through poland. they had 1st rates, and i, unready to fight a naval war, simply intended to land an invasion force in France, or near france. i chose to take the northern route, and, with my navy of only 3 brigs, was attacked by 2 1st rates!!!!!

unable to retreat anywhere i couldnt be attacked by anoter enemy, i chose to try and stay in front of the enemy ships. no luck. so, reloading, i tried to destroy as many cannons as possible. instead of destroying the cannons, on my first volley of a single brig versus a 1st rate, their powder magazine exploded and destroyed it, lighting my brig on fire in the massive explosion.

now i had 2 able brigs against a 1st rate.once again, i figured i'd just rake the sides and hope the'll just shoot over me while i break their cannons. nope. instead, their 2nd first rate explodes!!! in a 1-in-a-million chance, i defeated 2 first rates with 3 brigs!!!!

how amazing is that? now time to go steal some techs and build some more military docks............

    Quite unbelievable!

Exploding two first rates in one battle with brigs!

It is down right upsetting. You shouldn’t have scratched their paint with a brig.

I usually explode brigs using SOLs as they have such thin hulls. I would never have tried to exchange gunfire with them but just run up wind and stayed out of their way till the battle ended.

I just hope you were extraordinarily lucky and hope I never hear of this sort of thing again. LOL

I had an extremely UNLUCKY battle once where I had my 1 heavy first rate go against half a dozen galleys, and because I felt like going overkill I decided that I would destroy these tiny boats with broadsides. The first broadside caused the galley to erupt in a fireball and destroy my first rate. I was obsceenly rich at the time so it was more humourous than devastating.

Galley and Dhows have a nasty habit of nestling close alongside your ships and then exploding. I call them 'suicide dhows' in my games, and try to dismast them before actually sinking them just to stop them closing with me.

    On one hand impressive.

On the other, well, reloading is the ultimate crutch.

I don’t know for sure, but I think there have been some recent changes made, at least to the naval portion. Undocumented or not…

My small ships have been having trouble staying out of the way of galleons. More ships seem to be blowing up. The speed of the fast forward seems a bit slower. My machine is running high temperatures and having more trouble.

I have never run hot on naval battles before but I sure am now. In fact the whole game seems to be lagging more, and I have not changed anything…

It seems like steam feed me something when I was loading a few of days ago but it is hard to say.

Has anyone else noticed any differences?

Whoa......the AI built first rates in your game? That in itself is already awesome lol.

Wonder what the guys in the brig were thinking after the battle.....

Wonder what the French were thinking after the battle....

Maybe because it is summer and it is warmer in your house?

No, I have been monitoring the machine temperatures and performance for months now. It is not the ambient temperatures but machine performance that has changed.

The units are acting differently also…what is that?

Funny you should say that, I've noticed changes in the way the units behave in battle too, but I've just installed 'The Rights of Man' mod so I just put it down to that.

I've certainly noticed that infantry are moving much slower now, and the AI doesn;t charge them around at high speed constantly. It also seems to be making much more deliberate and orgnaised attacks on my battle lines now, instead of being obsessed with rushing units round my flanks and suiciding on my artillery. I even had three batteries of enemy artillery firing at my troops instead of my guns the other night, which is really unusual.

It is more like they make changes to the old patch without saying…it is so quick you never see the download but you can see a result.

The change to steamships was done that way….I can’t think of what else.

But now ships are exploding much more often…which is not all that good by the way!!!

I blew up a galleon in decent shape with a 5th rate at medium range…and I mean a standard 5th rate not a heavy with 24 lb. guns… I was outside the blast area but was it a big bang!

Movement is changed and the game code is leaking and causing lagging, more frequent CTDs and heating of the hardware.
