Thread: Muskets

I believe muskets/aqubusiers can be the most effective unit IF used properlly. An example: I played musashi bridge with 4 or 5 muskets and 4 or 5 aquabuseirs... That's all. I was defensive, and I placed my units into HUGE lines, 3 people thick, so one row fired and then the row behind them quickly moved to the front, etc. I had my side of the bridge encircled at about 50 yards away. As there troops came off the bridge, they were mowed down, and attempted to route. However, more came up through the bridge, clogging it up, and let's just say by the end the bridge was painted red, not wood colored I toom a screen shot of this amazing thing, and I will probably put online eventually, but until then maybe this will give you an idea of the battle

    An accurate representation.

I agree that muskets, when used properly, are very effective indeed, like any other unit in Shogun.

But, on the risk of sounding a bit negative, defending a bridge with that many gunners is almost like a walkover. Good players might have an answer to it, but any unit that makes it across is likely to rout as a result of the volleys of 5 or more gun units.

The musket has main strength in defending a bridge, because your enemies are lined up nice and ready to be shot dead or to lose morale or to be slaghtered by a good melee unit. However, I find that as the attacker and in an ordinary battle, muskets aren't particularly effective - they rout quickly, and are susceptible to virtually every unit in the game. I would personally wait and trade with the dutch rather than lose access to the excellent warrior monk.
