In Iskander's game and even my own games and others I have seen, it is only automatic if it is a similar to 1v1 situation or a situation where the game ends.

For example in splittered cells, there was one uninfected, but if the infector infected me and not the uninfected, the game still continues.

Also as such, the killer might not strike at all, therefore, if he hasn't struck the game doesn't end, it continues.
