Personally I wouldn't call that cheating.

Whilst I did not want to slavishly follow an historical timeline I wanted to kinda of re-create Pompey's and Ceasar's campaigns using Marian legions.
If I do another Roman campaign I'd like to find a way to trigger mass revolts to simulate the social wars and the triumvirate etc.

Leaving big cities ungoverned and ungarrisoned to get them to revolt is how I do that, I pull down some happiness buildings if necessary and roleplay they were destroyed in the upheaval. There is an add population cheat you can use to help encourage the revolts, not sure on the details though.

I ran a quick test with Southern Italian cities around 50BC they went red or yellow but did not riot and snapped right back to green next move, I think you may have to add a mass of poulation.

I remember what I did first time I simulated the Social Wars. I killed two birds with one stone as I had a ludicrous amount of money by hiring all the mercenaries I could find and disbanding them in my southern Italian cities, this just about tipped a few into rebellion.

Sarkiss I think you can get Marians before 172BC if you conquer more then 90 provinces, but by that stage you've practically won the game so unless your going for total world conquest not a lot of fun. All depends on how you like to play the game.
