    Default Beginning of winter/summer?

Just going to Google I seen that it is apparently the first day of winter/summer in much of the world. Here in Australia we have the first day of winter on the 1st of June. I had never thought that the seasons would be different elsewhere. He he, I just keep finding more ways us Aussies are weird

I found it crazy when i first heard of it... without much knowledge on the subject you would assume everyone would be warm and cold at the same time... albeit at slightly different time intervals...

Winter in aussie is cold ?

I imagine its somewhat similar to what we in britian call summer...

    Most likely.

Its about 18C. Maybe a bit less, but I live and grew up in the skin cancer capital of the world, Queensland. I expect daily temps of 24-34C thank you very much.

Bah, move to Canada. Better yet, inland Canada, where you can expect up to 40C to -20. Have fun, Aussies!

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

Come to the Prairies in Canada. We get a few days in summer of 40C, and months of -40C to -50C in winter.

You sure that you don't mix it up with midsummer? Aka the longest day of the year? I mean even here, summer begins somewhere in May (usually a very pale version of it).
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

I was talking about the official days. This is what wikipedia has to say about winter and the seasons

In many countries, winter officially begins on the day of the year which has fewest hours of daylight, the winter solstice, and ends on the following equinox. In the Northern Hemisphere, depending on the year, this corresponds to the period between December 20 and 21 and March 20 or 21. It marks the transition between autumn and spring. [1][2] In many countries in the Southern Hemisphere, including Australia [3][4], New Zealand and South Africa, winter begins on 1 June and ends on 31 August.
Everyone should use the southern hemisphere method since is makes more sense

I'm with pever on this one, as a northern rivers boy I believe all temperatures below 25C should be outlawed in Australia.
constant 25-30C weather would of course be perfect, but anything up to 40C is also acceptable.

Sure, if you don't have any real seasons it might make sense.

Anyway, since the summer is now only having to do with daylight, I would say that only when you have daylight 24 hours a day you got summer.

Melbourne is un-natural as well. Who has daylight until 10:30pm during summer?

Bah! It should get dark at 5:30pm, like it does up here. Or 6:30pm during summer.
