Post-Election Blues

Currently running a republic, the election counter runs down to zero with the current cabinet running at a comfortable 68% approval. After hitting end-turn, I am informed that the current cabinet has retained their seats, but when I check the ministers screen, all my 5-7 star ministers but one are now 2-3 stars. Nobody died - everyone was in their 40's. I don't recall such a house-cleaning after previously won elections.

What happened?

Are they the same ministers?
Did they lose traits they had before the election?
Try loading turn before the election and see if same happens again.
Edit: If I'm not wrong, in republics people can't stay in power for more than 2 elections.
For Constitutional Monarchies they can so long people like them.

That may be it; all the super-competent old-hands have been replaced by a bunch of nincompoops. This is my first go at a republic, so I'd never seen term limits come into play. Term limits in the 18th Century?

Yeah, Absolute monarchies are by far the best in my opinion :D
I don't remember where I heard that, but yes in republics only 2 terms...
What I dislike in democracies and constitutional monarchies is that I have no idea who will replace the guy I fire if he catches lots of bad traits. But it always seems to be the same person replacing if I reload and then fire the same guy again.

i agree. AM's are the best. if you are unpopular, just hire different, more qualified ministers!

te only reason i dont like CM's and republics are because the people are stupid. they vote out the best men and vote in crappy young guys

That happens after more or less every election when playing as the United States, I found I had several turns of cabinet re-shuffling after every election to restore decent government.
