    Default Diet Advice

All advice is welcome, but I'd prefer if you had experience with such advice.

I'm going to the beach in a few things and would like to shed some extra pounds. Now I not an unhealthy person, and don't need to shed a massive amount of weight, but just enough so my abs are a bit more defined and I have slightly less stomach fat.

I'm currently running 3-4 miles every day and eating the following:

100% Whole Wheat Bagel (around 50 carbs, 10 grams proteins, completely whole wheat, no refined grain)

Chick Filet Chicken Nuggets (Very low in sat fat/carbs, very high in protein, bit high in sodium)

For dinner I'll eat either eggs, chicken/brocolii, beef/brocolii, etc)

    Any suggestions?

Is that ALL your eating in a day? Also how long have you got to lose the weight?

You probably would be better served to do exercises that target the abdominal muscles.

The thing is I already have ab muscles, just too much stomach fat for my liking around them. I do plenty of situps/crunches/leg lifts

I'll eat a few dry roasted almonds too for a snack. I have a couple weeks to shed a few pounds... Like I said I'm in pretty good shape, I just want to be in great beach shape.

Sounds like you get enough exercise. Do you drink much beer? Stupid question to ask a college student, but I find that beer really seems to keep my fat cells around my abs nice and plump.

You're searching for bodybuilder type muscle definition and I'm not sure you can get that in couple of weeks. Good luck though!

The best thing to keep doing then is eating less and exercising more. You could also try HIIT. I've never tried it myself but apparently it's meant to be good for loosing fat.

no, he wouldnt. i thought the same thing too, but if you still have a substantial amount of belly fat, you'd be better off not doing abdominal exercises.
you see, when you work on the abs and not having it in conjunction with cardiovascular exercise, all it does is build up the abs under the fat, thus pushing out the fat and make you only look fatter. thats what i did, and now im paying the price for it, because now i look fatter than i actually am.

Less carbs and calories. And if you want some real definition stay away from fluids at least 18 hours before the beach.

Props to Hooah Abs only mean you have a low body fat % nothing else. Gold star to him;.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

Well im not really into the whole "losing" weight thing but here goes. I think that if you want to build like a bodybuilders physique you're gonna have to eat a high protein diet and lift weights and do more high stress workouts. However you only want to define your abdominal area right???? So what youre doing is probably fine, for running i have this schedule for West Point that i like doing,

    1st week 3 miles at 8.5 to 9.5 minutes each, 5 days a week
2nd week 4 miles at an 8-9 minute pace 5 days a week
3rd week ride a bike or swim for 30 minutes daily (DO THIS IT REALLY HELPS)
4th week 5 miles at an 8 minute pace, 5 days a week
    5th week run 5 miles at a 7.5 minute pace, 5 days a week
6th week swim or bike for 45 minutes daily
    7th week 5 miles at a 7 minute pace, 5 days a week
    8th week 5 miles at a 6.5 minute pace, 5 days a week

Well you cant do that because you're going in a couple weeks but if you want to keep the body weight off, this is what Americas young military officers use. Oh and dont starve yourself, but i guess youre used to eating nothing but ramen noodles in college lololololol

Oh and strikes comment about fluids is totally true, but remember to drink once you get to the beach. i forgot to get some water in san diego after working out and lets just say i was a little thirsty

Generally long distance cardio is not that great for fat loss. Your better off with sprints or weightlifting with short rest periods and high reps (10-15).

For diet, whole grain is only marginally better for you, just try and skip the carbs as much as you can. Don't eat too little.

I eat mostly meat and cheese except after my workout, which is either a weight circuit or hill sprints (which are highly reccommended).

Hoah nailed it. Losing fat and developing abs are two different things. If you want to burn fat on the stomach, abdominal exercises aren't gonna help much. What you should do is more running, cycling and that sort of stuff (cardiovascular exercises). I'd say do it twice a day, once first thing in the morning and then in the afternoon for 30-60 minutes. Anything less than thirty minutes is not gonna have much effect.

Also, I'd avoid eating beef in the evening. Although beef is great compared to something like pork, it's still much worse fat-wise compared to chicken, turkey or fish (and sea stuff in general). Eggs, too. There's a lot of fat/cholesterol in that yellow stuff (can't remember the English word for it). White stuff is okay, it's even good. Generally few eggs won't do you much harm, they may even help but I'd eat them earlier in the day...

Well I've been cutting carbs and exercising and it's surprising how much better I look already.

I do have one issue though; insomnia. No matter what time I go to bed, I'll always wake up 2-3 hours later and have trouble going back to sleep. It's really starting to take it's toll on me and I think it would be from the lack of carbs. I've heard that oatmeal with a banana and some skim milk would help me sleep much better. Anyone have experience with this?
