or they are previewing spoony's mechagodzilla v. megazoid battle in his upcoming "deadliest character" show. Afterall, knowing how good they are at throwing red herrings, the line could be part of sth like this:

    *uses 300-esque narration*:

"from the dark furies comes mechagodzilla, an abomination of steel and electricity that destroys whole japanese cities. and from the big lasery head, comes the megazoid, ommanded by five? brats with attitude-WHO IS DEADLIEST?!"

Seeing this new update I think the next faction will be:

The Cimbri. They were Germanic, hence the furies. Also when they massively invaded Rome and beaten multiple Roman armies they forced the Romans to give up on the Polybian army style and adopt the Marian style Legionairry. So end of and era and the start of another.

I hope its true, having another Germanic faction in the mix would be great, and the Cimbri definately were an strong people, being able to beat multiple Roman armies.

Weren't the Cimbri definitely ruled out - at least as a playable faction ? There are quite a few exceptionally complex issues concerning their ethno-cultural identity and the relative scarcity of archaeologically backed-up primary sources as well as the stated aim of the EBII Team - 'no history on rails' after starting date 272BC - makes their appearance in EBII very unlikely.

By the way...what about a Pahlava Preview? 'The twilight of an era, and the dawn of another[...]' may well allude to the collapse of the Seleukid Empire...

Another rather distinct - and much more serious - possibility would be the Cherusci - 'the twilight of an era, and the dawn of another[...]' referring to the Teutoburg Forrest defeat...

Not sure. I think that in that tread it was pointed out that they most likely were Germanics but on their campaign were probably joined by Celts. That same problem would apply to the Sweboz as well. Besides weapons and clothing I think it would be hard to find any evidence of Germanic origin.

No history on rails indeed, yet you speak as if the Cimbri didn't exist before 272 BC. If they would be around and would be able to field so much manpower later on then it could definately enter as an faction. Also when looked at current doubtfull factions.

I - besides other important aspects - merely doubt that the EBII Team has really managed to accumulate research of sufficient quality and quantity to adequately 'flesh out' a second/third proto-germanic tribe - as a distinct, unique playable faction - specific Germanic sources are nonexistent, specific Graeco-Roman sources are very sparse and of doubtful quality, they must be reconciled (stereotypes of 'barbarians',...) with the still relatively sparse archaeological record,... It just seems very unlikely for the 'scholarly' EBII Team to found a entire 272BC Cimbri faction merely on rather questionable hypotheses/conjectures and be actually able to seriously justify their decision.

EDIT: 'important aspects' roughly correspond to Horatius Flaccus' post below.... ;)

It's not reasonable and we are not doing it. I will state this quite categorically (and please do quote this in all further discussions of having the Cimbri ingame), the Cimbri will not appear as a faction in EBII and they will not appear as rebels in some sort of invasion script. That is all.

Yet we already have multiple factions based on the exact same.

Seeing above post, oh well, the bill fitted the Cimbri, too bad.

Ah, I thought that he meant that another faction in Germany was needed - as opposed to a Germanic faction.

I doubt they'll include another germanic faction.

    We can always hope.

At least there is a high chance of an Belgae tribe making it in, who are semi-Germanic. Or the Nervii who claim to be fully Germanic. But yeah an Belgea faction is very likely to get in.

that would depend on several things:

1-do they have evidence/information on certain tribes in the area?
2-do they have the manpower to research and produce factional units/skins/models?
3-does it redress some of the balancing problems in EB I, in regards to germania? (I say this matters, since it apparently did for that numidian kingdom+ Pergamon)

for number three, the answer is: any Germanic faction is possibly (not certain) unnecessary, as the Boii would make an excellent balance. and of course, the Boii are good for 1 and 2 as well. otherwise, we wouldn't have a preview of them (in fact, 2 previews).

does that mean there won't be another tribe? no, it doesn't. but it does make it seem less likely there will be. I myself would love another one of those tribes: I do want to see Germanic on Germanic action in custom battles.

    1. This is problem with Casse and Sweboz currently as well. Don't see how the Sweboz could be in but Chattii can't for something the Sweboz shouldn't be in for either.
    2. Your point? The faction slot has to be filled, wether its an Germanic faction or not.
    3. Yes it would, any faction in or close to Germania would balance out the Sweboz.

  27. #657

    Default Re: Twitter discussion

my personal favorite would be the Chatti but as Boii "dominate" the south and chatti would be a bit too close to the Sweboz a belgae faction would make more sence.

Yes, personally I think an Belgae faction is already in. But still hoping for an Germanic faction, or well a non Belgae one.

Chatti is also personal favourite of mine, being so warfare focussed, and also spawning the Batavians, Romes best Auxilaries.
