Thread: Completed Carthage victory conditions...no popup?
Zim 06:21 24/06/09
After two+ years of playing EB I figured it was finally time to actaully complete the victory conditions for a campaign (which I usually ignore). I had an old Carthage game where I had abandoned all but Carthage and maybe two other nearby settlements (I can't recall) and slowly rebuilt an empire that was getting close to the conditions so I fired it back up and a couple sessions later managed to get every settlement needed.

Several years later and still no popup.

I'm playing version 1.2

2 relevant things that may be affecting my game:

1. I switched to BI.exe about half a decade before the current turn.
2. All but two of those turns the Seleucids have had Sidon sieged.

Could either of those two things be affecting my chances of getting the victory screen?

Checked out the Getai thread where someone is having a similiar problem. It was noted that the victory map might not match the actual conditions exactly, and something about needing to outlast factions. I can check the advisor for the former, and for the latter I'm thinking maybe I have to wipe out the Romans (now stuck in Celtic lands to the north)? The advisor didn't mention outlasting anyone but that would make sense for Carthage.

Trying to get the Carthaginian victory popup drove me insane! Took me a while to realise that both the shaded faction map, and the win conditions listed in the faction leader's profile, are wrong. You need to click the question mark in the faction screen to make the necessary settlements flash.

so, some things you've possibly missed:

take Massillia (not listed)
take Cyrencia (not listed)
raid a few settlements in NW Africa (tricky to spot sometimes)
take the Phonecian homeland, Sidon (slightly counterintuitive)

hope this works for you

That explains it. I'm missing Kyrene and Massalia. Didn't notice them when I clicked on the Advisor. I have raided those settlements and went ahead and bought Sidon (although I'll likely let it rebel while I train troops to capture Massalia and Kyrene.

Thanks for the info.

That's simply false. The Qarthadastim VCs given by the advisor and the faction leader trait are correct and probably haven't been changed in two years. The maps are, unfortunately, out of date.

Correct - that's the best way to determine faction VCs.
